Re: Debt collection agency are they worth it?

Use 'interest' accumulation to get that sum over $5,000 and then sue in the real small claims court?

Re: Debt collection agency are they worth it?

In BC there just has to be an improvement made to the property by the claimant (would have thought so in AB too). Certificates of pending litigation are useful tools too when real property is...

Re: Moving to Canada to practise law? Is it realistic?

If you can get any work as a lawyer in The UK I would suggest not making the jump to Canada. Just my opinion as I made the move (was pushed) due to the last economic slump. If no slump, doubt I would...

Re: UK transcripts for Canadian University??

Just a thought here:

Go to a solicitor or notary in The UK and get certified copies made of the certificates and any transcripts you have, for about £10 a pop. Send the originals to Canada and...

Re: Wills and Probate - UK and Canada

I am sure the poster is referring to reciprocal tax arrangements between Canada and The UK as to assets, capital gains, income tax...etc for non-residents.

There is no actual 'death tax' in BC...

Re: coming to Canada, and the future of our children

Yes, just look at the high standard of spelling and grammar a British education provides one. Touche!

Re: Police above the law?

I once wrote to Santa complaining about the PCBs in my Chinese made toy.

Months went by with no response. I was totally shocked.

Then after 6 months I had a standard card which read:

2 years in Northern BC...and staying.

We recently crossed this threshold.

I have the following comments:

1) Life is more simple in Canada compared to The UK.
2) The cost of living, when factoring in higher wages in Canada, is not...

Re: gay couple separation

In BC, live 2 years in sin, and you're in. Same rights as a married couple under BC legislation (sexual orientation is irrelevant).

My read of the OP's facts was that they have a civil union in...

Re: So go ahead and Sue me.

*Libel*? The two are not the same.
Although I admit not to have had enough interest to read the case.

Re: Letters of consent and travelling with children

Just what we need around here...another Philosophy graduate.

The whole point of statutory discretion in law or policy enforcement is just that, its discretionary.

What a rambling thread.

Re: Letters of consent and travelling with children

FL - If I had your individual statutory discretion I would ask to see a court order permitting travel (if your gut says this is fishy).

Re: Letters of consent and travelling with children

That only works with property such as motor vehicles. Total BS with children. People routinely 'have' their children with them when the court has ordered exactly the opposite.

Re: Letters of consent and travelling with children

Says it all. No legal requirement...and signing the recommended template letter in front of a lawyer or notary has no legal significance at all. Yes - it has the impression factor for the individual...

Re: Real Estate Agent hyperbolae...

I think you meant "hyperbole" however even that is not consistent with your argument..."hubris" is the concept you are actually describing. An example of hyperbole in these circumstances might be: "A...

Re: NCA Exams

I would caution anyone considering this route as it is widely reported that the federal NCA gate is now effectively starting to constrict, if not shut. You could consider contacting the relevant...

Re: Ford on Kimmel

I assure you have seen elements of human nature that inform my position.

Would you be willing to confirm whether you are a woman? Would you argue that the legal system does 'justice' to fathers in...
