Is the education system better in Canada, than the UK?

Is the job market for young professionals better in Canada than in the UK?

Well, in 1982 my parents moved us to the UK from Vancouver to go to school..

But I hear they are better now.

I dont know any job market in the world that is good. They seem to be all hard everywhere.. Unless a SAP consultant..

It's not better, it's just different. Move for a different life, not a better life.

We decided that life in Canada fit more of our wants for settling down and (hopefully) having kids... as Lychee said, it was just a different life, not necessarily a better life. We find some things are better and some things are worse, but overall we are happier, which was the point.

I guess, we all came from somewhere in Europe.

For some immigrants the move to Canada will probably have that thought of a better life for their children in mind....

I'm confused. Your location says you're in Toronto, but several of your recent posts suggest you're still in the UK.

If you are indeed in Toronto, why TF did you start this thread?

The UK scores marginally higher than Canada in the global education tables, so to be honest, there's not much in it.

If you're kids are already in the school system, they will most definitely take a step back when the move here- kids start later in Canada, but catch up later on. If they're not yet in the school system, they wont be effected.

However, don't move here thinking your kids education will be better off- it wont. One might even argue (although I have no evidence to support this) that a UK education is more highly regarded than a Canadian one on the global scene.

I think the correct answer to all these silly questions is, not better nor worse, just different.

Depends what you consider a better future for your kids? If you are trying to get them away from some gangs or druggies, it might work. If you wonder if just by moving to Canada the garden becomes rosy, it won't, it is just different.

Education, not much in it between the two, for better or worse.

Job market is not really much different. More depends on the individual and their abilities. If you are good and do well where you are chances are you'll do okay here. If you're crap at the job there, don't expect moving countries to improve things.

Neither assumption is correct.

You need to have other reasons other than Canada is better for them.... If you can earn more money here/spend less time working because you can get a better paid job here then yes it probably will be better.

But it's not really better just different as others have said. I don't think education is any better really. A smart child with good input from home will do well wherever. I would question whether the job market is better for children here. I would have thought in the London Vs Toronto competition, London would win hands down for opportunity. Just my thoughts.
