Why don't you give it a couple of years, keep your house in the UK and rent it out which will pay for rent in Australia. Put your things mostly in storage and come over with just very pesonal bits...

Jdr is in Spain, and from all accounts is doing okay.

I agree with some of his comments , I did a Spanish course in Malaga and the teachers did not speak English at all. It reminded me of charades...
