Re: Uk bank cheque

Cheques? I think those were abandoned around 2008 or something? A family member sent me a cheque for my birthday. My bank wouldn't accept it. It's in a drawer somewhere.

Re: Currency

Value of pound doesn't necessarily correlate to disposable income. Brits are now finding Europe extremely expensive, while Europeans are finding Europe to be quite reasonable. Here, Germans and other...

Re: Paying Cash into Bank

There are lots of mostly cash transaction businesses, such as restaurants and bars and 2nd hand shops.. I wonder what they do with their cash. If they can only deposit 1000 at a time.

Re: I Hate Spain!!!

This thread is like a daily express article. The title has little to do with the content.

Re: Where in Spain would you suggest?

Mallorca Is a bit more expensive than mainland Spain, but one advantage is that no matter where you are, the distance to the beach is measured in minutes. So, if beachyness is your primary interest...

Re: ANTI SQUATTER PETITION

It sounds serious. And in need of serious reevaluation. Luckily our properties aren't in "peril" of this. And neither should yours be.

Still, the UK has zero influence. Might as well petition...

Re: ANTI SQUATTER PETITION

This sounds like Daily Mail stuff. "Perils"? I own property in Spain, and not only is it not in any kind of "peril", but has more than doubled in value in just 5 years. And continues to do so.

As...

Re: ANTI SQUATTER PETITION

are you now living in the UK? Then your job is made easier since it's now more difficult to get Spanish products. Really, you don't even have to work at it.

Not that Spain is all that concerned....

Re: 90/180 Rule

In our patch, it's Germans. They've always been the dominant tourist nationality here, they have money, are ready to go somewhere, and apparently have just dropped some major covid restrictions for...

Re: 72 Billion - what can we blow that on?

I keep hearing about it, but haven't seen it yet. Less crowded than usual for this time of year, but the shopping malls and supermarkets are pretty busy, in the city, it's busy. Cafes and restaurants...

Re: Spanish Residency for UK nationals after 31st December 2020

I believe the minimum income requirement for non-EU nationals to retire in Spain is 24000€ per year? Or something like that. I might actually be understating it.

i only mention it because it's not...

Re: Spanish Residency for UK nationals after 31st December 2020

Well, you'll need a good reason for it (e.g., your Spanish employer can't live without you), and if your reason is retirement, the bar will be raised considerably. I reckon that would tend to...

Re: Spanish Residency for UK nationals after 31st December 2020

Look, Brits aren't going to suddenly stop coming to Spain, and even if they did, the impact would be minor. Most tourism businesses expect some decrease in both British tourism and particularly Brits...

Re: Spanish Residency for UK nationals after 31st December 2020

Yes, we know. It's a quality of life thing.

The restaurants here serve great food too. Many times when we've had visitors, we go out to eat, have a fabulous meal in places oozing with charm, and...

Re: Spanish Residency for UK nationals after 31st December 2020

Perhaps. But here, they lost that battle to conectabalear. I believe you can get 600mb from them, but 100mb is the basic package and well, it's more than most people need really. Still, about a month...

Re: Spanish Residency for UK nationals after 31st December 2020

I can't speak for the rest of Spain, but the Balearics receive precious little infrastructure funding from the EU (blue signs are extremely rare). The vast majority of it comes from tourist tax and...

Re: Spanish Residency for UK nationals after 31st December 2020

I haven't been taxed in the UK for more than 30 years, so I wouldn't have a point of reference.

My main point of reference is Germany, where taxes are higher, and the finazamt (tax authorities)...

Re: Spanish Residency for UK nationals after 31st December 2020

Yes, I've heard that Spain is "so expensive". It's one of the reasons one couple we used to know moved back to England.

I see people on travel forums talking about how "they've raised prices so...

Re: Spanish Residency for UK nationals after 31st December 2020

The perception that Spain (and other EU member states) are somehow dependent on Britain is nothing new. The belief that Spain will wither into economic ruin without British expats or tourism has been...

Re: Spanish Residency for UK nationals after 31st December 2020

It will be the same as any non-EU immigrant.

You'll need to meet a number of requirements. First, you'll need a good reason for it. Are you going for work? Your employer will need to sponsor you...

Re: Electricity problem at our holiday home

Sorry for your troubles. It wasn't iberdrola in our case, but Endesa (same thing, really). But that's how it works. The overcharges aren't enough to make it worth suing over. You don't need a lawyer...

Re: If you relocated to Spain what were your reasons for that?

It would have to be a non-EU country. But then, Britain was pretty lax about non-EU imigration while it was a member, so, maybe you're right. But money talks, and there's not much evidence that...

Re: If you relocated to Spain what were your reasons for that?

The status of existing legally resident British expats in Spain has already been guaranteed. That's no longer in question. To "kick them out" or otherwise treat them differently would render no...

Re: What kind of holiday in Spain soon?

A reasonable explanation.

I have to say, though, this disinfectant they have at the entrance to all the shops appears to be really good stuff. It's clear, somewhat gel like, obviously alcohol...
