The UK has done very well to be part of this, but there may well be a downside.

For the French they did not recall the UK ambassador, as they said the UK was simply a minor partner and ridding on the coattails of the US.

France's defence minister has cancelled talks with her UK counterpart and that may just be the start of the UK / French relationship spiralling downwards.

Also, the EU is taking note and trade talks on a deal betwen the EU and Australia that are just about to start have now been put in jeopardy, with talk of them being suspended.

Rightly or wrongly, the point is that the French have the hump and feel tricked and deceived. They will want to exact revenge...

As the French are at the heart of Europe and as the EU are all ears about what has happened, furure agreements and talks between EU as an institution, individual EU countires and the UK may become more fraught.

For those of us hoping that some of the problematic issues that arose out of Brexit would be resolved post-haste, this does not bode well...

EU countries may well adopt the approach with regard to the UK that, if you are not with us, then you are against us.

the EU member states are very divided over what contribution( if any) that they should make. Been a thorn in the side of NATO for years.
