Harping on about health care again... and questions.

Well, I'm on the continued adventure of the US health care system for a back injury. So far I've paid out of pocket for physical therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, and other things... over 6 months....

Re: San Fran People: which neigbourhood and why?

Pacific Heights, around California and Fillmore. Parks, shops, bars, bus lines. Rents have gone through the roof though. Those of us who moved here well before the madness are hanging on to our...

Re: F-ing health insurance in this country!!!

Yes, I needed (and still need) physical therapy. Kaiser is not able to tell you the final cost up front. Thus there are hidden costs. When you are sick and desperate you are vulnerable. You will go...

Sorry, but I have to have a rant here or I'll explode or book a ticket to England and leave forever (if only I was well enough!)

I just got a bill from Kaiser P for $270 for 2 physical therapy...

May I ask... Where exactly did you live in the USA? Were you in college? And where do you live now in England? There are vast cultural differences within each country. I know what it feels like to...

Hooray! Christmas is OVER!

No more pressure to feel happy or make up things to do for Christmas, so I have something to tell people -- rather than just have a nice relaxing day. No more having to explain, or rather not bother...

Re: Should I stay or should I go?

BTW, I'm from West Sussex too, and would move there if I was moving back! Hoping to do an extended stay in the next year or two... since I think I would miss San Francisco.

Re: Should I stay or should I go?

I think it's best to stop taking the so-called news quite so seriously? I mean, I've done it too at times, but this is how they sell newspapers and TV time slots, you know! :) As others have said, it...

Re: Telecommuting and UK / US taxes

sallysimmons, I am thinking of doing exactly that -- keeping my US clients and trying a stint in England. Would you mind sharing the name of the company that will help file your taxes?

Re: Sole tradership/business account name?

Sorry, don't know about the UK, but in the US there are a couple of basic options -- perhaps similar in the UK:

1) simple one: sole proprietorship - name of your business can be anything "DBA...

Re: Travelling with two passports

Thanks for clearing that up everyone. I guess I assumed they were stamping passports for a reason and therefore checking them!

Travelling with two passports

I have done a search for this question, as I'm sure I'm not the first, but couldn't find anything...

I have a UK and US passport -- and will travel from US to Portugal, then UK to USA.

Re: It really just happened to me

My name sounds like Maah-ri (rhymes with starry), but it's spelt Marie.

My name is a constant almost daily conversation. Gets very old:

-- Hi Maury
It's Marie
-- Hi, Lori /...

Re: It really just happened to me

Re: How often do you call your parents in the UK?

Somehow putting this out here helped eased my mind a little. As most people have said, each to his own. I have to accept what's doable for me. Deep down I want that normal warm contact. But in...
