Re: How long before you stop comparing?..

I'm going back to the UK for three weeks this month - first time back since we arrived in August...

I've just about stopped comparing things now, and am enjoying the Kiwi way of things. Now I...

Re: 6.3 quake reported in Christchurch?

Finding it hard to comprehend what's going on in Chch. Truly horrific for all those involved. Hoping for the best outcome from this horrible situation, and thinking of everyone...

Re: Guys, I'm really confused.... ROTORUA

That is true. Taupo is where I go to for a nice lie-down. Normally when I'm on the way to somewhere else (!)

And funny story about the espionage/Rotorua questioning. I concur with the work-visa...

Re: Guys, I'm really confused.... ROTORUA

Cracking library as well, even if you do have to pay to get some books out. And a very nice cafe with lovely staff (I spend a bit too much time there "working").

Rotorua is a good town, but as...

Re: Boy racers, is it a big problem?

My partner works in the hospital here in Rotorua, and he said the main difference between people coming in from RTAs here, compared to UK (Sunderland) is that everyone here is far more mangled...

Re: Positive Vibes Please

In some ways I agree with this.

I came here with very very low expectations (Rotorua, not NZ). And I've been very pleasantly surprised :)

If there's not a bubble to burst, you won't be...

Re: Positive Vibes Please

We're here on a year's work contract, going home in July. And (aside from family) I'm dreading returning to the horror story that is the UK.

NZ isn't perfect, but it's pluses are certainly very...

Re: Buying a car

Heh, funny when you resurrect fairly old threads. When I last read this, I was still in UK. Since then have moved out to Rotorua and bought 'Geoff', our 1993 diesel V6 Toyota Camry, with A/C,...

Re: 3 months in

Some friends came down from Hamilton yesterday, and kept referring to the smell. I was like 'what smell?'. :)

It's the same principle as living next to a waterfall, I suppose.

Re: Price food shock NZ v UK

On a related note, I think I've been most surprised to find that food standards in terms of animal life/death quality are so different. In my local countdown it took me about 6 goes to find a box of...

Re: Hamilton Requests

It is called Cambridge and full of horsey folks...who else would live there? :p

Oh, and Hamilton would be fine as a base for the first year or so for sure. It's got everything you need to get...

Re: Hamilton Requests

I live a bit further inland (Rotorua) but have visited Hamilton and Cambridge a fair few times to see friends. Have to agree that Hamilton is a bit of a 'nothing' town - lots of stuff, but no real...

Re: Last minute nerves about moving to New Zealand

Hi,

Can't help with the majority of your question but, as our surfing instructor told me on Saturday at Raglan, where-ever there are surfers, there are sharks. We were on the West coast (cracking...

Re: Post Xmas Rotorua meet

I intend to be there with bells on (although not sleigh bells, by that point). Sounds cracking; I'll try drag the boyfriend along too :D

Re: Rotorua. Who's here? Head count please....

Me! Also here since August, and will be here till June :D (Not because I don't like the place, but just because that was the plan).

Question is: how many of the people newly arriving in Rots will...

Re: What do you do when you get homesick?

Sorry to hear you're still suffering from homesickness, Zoe. Can't be much fun. Although there does seem to be a repeated connection to Countdown? (I also want to cry when I go there, most times. But...

Re: NZ version of 'Have I Got News'....

I have to say, I shared your husband's reaction to Wanna-ben. Managed to stomach it for ten minutes, then gave up.

7 Days, however, does have sheer, sharp observational moments of comic genius....

T'is funny, this forum. You have this thread giving a hundred of reasons for why going back to the UK will never match the quality of life in NZ.

Then you have another arguing precisely the...

Re: 8 weeks to go and Oh S**T!! HELP!

My partner is here for a year's work contract as a doctor - as whilst he had to get MRSA swabs sorted, he didn't have to have a chest x-ray done or a medical.

Which doesn't really help, as it...
