Moving to Albany..Info required please
Hi there,
After living in Orewa for 8 years it looks like a move is on the cards in the next few weeks....Only thing is its to Albany and I don't know a lot about the place really.
So if anyone has any good info about schools, things to do for the kids, places to go for the adults it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Sister in law lives in Albany/Pinehill. It's a nice area. Good schools. Browns Bay is one of the beaches. The Albany Mega Centre is one of the shopping centres. There is also a sports stadium on the edge of town for rugby.

where in albany are you moving? how old are the kids? I Live Torbay/Northcross border I have a son who is in last year at Primary and will go to Northcross intermediate which has a good reputation. I have friends how go to Albany junior high and sing its praises
Albany is good for shops, work, cinema, bear in mind the stadium is going to be used for the World cup and if the traffic management is anything like the All Whites game a few months ago its chaos and you have to go miles. Supermarket wise there is a new world and a pack and slave

We've been in Albany for almost five years since moving out here, we like it, handy for the motorway if you need it for work, close enough to the beaches.
It has a Mega Center and Mall but still feels like a village.

I think that should be past tense!! It was famous for its chickens until they all got shot.
Anyone considering moving to Albany should avail themselves of the latest town planning information as it is still a work in progress to develop this as a 'city' and there was plans afoot to build several thirty storey high rise tower blocks of apartments and a hotel. The recession has halted a lot of progress and it all fell apart last year due to the developer going bust, so I don't know what the latest situation is.
