When we came over from NZ about 5 years ago the shipping was around 11-12k for a 40 foot container. We shopped around for quotes but they all came in around the same. We've done enough moves now to...

It's disappointing to see the odd "if you don't agree with this article then leave" and "NZ is better off without...

Re: Finding peace and stillness- wrong place at wrong time?

It sounds as if you've applied Occam's razor to your situation and arrived at the simplest conclusion i.e. you don't feel New Zealand is your home. Don't practice resignation and feel that you're in...

Re: What would you have packed - Newbie fun!

Re: Thinking about moving back to England

Did she ever get any feedback why she was unsuccessful? it's really hard on kids when they've done their very best and they aren't told why they got knocked back. It takes a lot of courage for them...

WOTIF flights to Europe

Has anyone used Wotif to book flights, or do you just look up the prices and then go and book direct with the airline?

Re: Best places to move to in Oz

I wouldn't put Canberra in the same league as proper cities like Perth and too a lesser extent Brisbane. It has some very good museums, markets and galleries but lacks a city feel, it's more like a...

Re: Dilemma with stroppy teenager!

Sounds like a plan, talk it out with her and give her room to come to terms with it all.

I tell you, you can tear yourself inside out trying to work things out for her and before you know it...

Re: Thinking about moving back to England

Are you saying that love30stm and her daughter can't find the work they want because they don't want it, that it's their fault somehow?

Or are you saying they have to get on their bikes to find...

Re: Thinking about moving back to England

If you have your indefinite returning residents visa there's no reason to stay and wait for citizenship, although I do realise the rules could change in the future for offshore IRRV holders, but...

Re: Thinking about moving back to England

You hit the nail on the head there.

They're perfectly capable of reopening the door when they're adults if the fancy takes them. Who's to say they'd ever chose NZ anyway, they may be more tempted...

Re: Best places to move to in Oz

Give Brisbane a go they're still building there and the GC is hosting the Commonwealth Games. Try to live on the eastern side near the coast so you catch the sea breezes, or on top of a hill,...

Re: What's the Temperature & Weather like where you are now?

I'm not passing judgement here, I'm supporting the OP and agreeing with her when she says that family support is important. It's as good a reason as any for moving...

Re: Thinking about moving back to England

Well of course you would say that since you are living in a predominantly expat community, where the kids benefit from mixing with a multi-ethnic peer group but miss out on having extended family...

Re: Thinking about moving back to England

But people born outside of New Zealand only make up 23% of the population so they're not exactly in the majority in most of the country, although in some areas that are very popular with expats they...

Re: Thinking about moving back to England

I just wanted to clarify what I meant by community and sense of connectedness: having whanau, that's very important in New Zealand and great store is placed on the extended family unit in the...
