Re: What's the Temperature & Weather like where you are now?

Ballarat got down to 0C early Friday morning. Dare say some people would have been dealing with ice on their cars.

Just a few days ago it was 36C in Melbourne, yesterday it was 16C with squally...

Re: What's the Temperature & Weather like where you are now?

Slowly getting there. There were a few warm and sunny days last week, it was almost 32C in Melbourne on Tuesday.

A few warm to hot days next week as well which will be nice.

Today is back to...

Re: Summer equals grumpy.

Cold, cloudy, wet.

It didn't even make it to 15C in Melbourne today. It only got to 11.5C in Ballarat.

Parts of southern Victoria have had 80-100mm of rain in the past two days, including the...

Re: The Cricket Thread (...and other sport)

Mitchell Johnson has been in form in recent times, bowling 150-155km/hr and injuring batsmen.

The English really don't know that much about his ability as a fast bowler because they have only seen...

Re: What's the Temperature & Weather like where you are now?

Exact opposite here. Wet, overcast, cold and feels more like May than November.

On the 18th of July, Melbourne broke its all time highest winter temperature with a 23.3C maximum. Since then there...

Re: The Hayfever's back

It hasn't been too bad in Victoria yet. There haven't been enough warm northerly wind days and the rye grass hasn't had a chance to flower yet. It will get worse towards the end of this month and...

Re: What's the Temperature & Weather like where you are now?

It's green at this time of year in most years. October/November (mid spring) is usually the greenest time of the year here as it is the wettest time and the sun and warmer air is starting to have an...

Re: What's the Temperature & Weather like where you are now?

Thick mist here this evening and dribbly rain. I think it only got up to around 13C or something here. Yesterday was about 27C and sunny, so a huge contrast, typical Melbourne/Victoria style spring...

Re: You know you are in Australia when...

That's called 'frog in the pond' and is popular at kids birthday parties. If it's an adult serving it up to other adults I would be a little worried.

Re: Must do holiday things to do in Melbourne???

Heaps of excellent live music venues in Melbourne;

eg. Palais Theatre and Esplanade hotel in St. Kilda
Forum theatre, Hi Fi bar and Palace theatre in central Melbourne. Also some inner urban...

Re: Whinge about the Brisbane weather

Too many generalisations.

Melbourne is not as hot and dry in summer as many try to make out.

Just for a wild comparison, Melbourne is about 3C cooler on average in summer than Milan...

Re: Any truth? British Jealousy?

Australia has beaches like the one in that article anyway.

Many of the beaches on the Great Ocean road are like that, particularly the Apollo Bay beach. Wide and sandy along a small bay with lush...

Re: What's the Temperature & Weather like where you are now?

Stinking hot for too long..... Hope it ends soon and we go back to normal weather.

Computer models predicting rain and storms this week for most of Victoria.

Re: Compare USA to Australia

It's a simple function of population size. USA has a huge population with a whole heap of large cities and towns and densely populated over very large areas.

Australia has a small population, only...

Re: Weather difference in Australia?

This summer in Melbourne has been far from typical, in fact it has been one of the hottest and driest on record, with over 100 years of reliable records.

I think Feb is currently tracking around...

Re: Australia, cultural desert?

Australia produced the world's first feature film. Look it up for those that are clueless.

Re: Things you notice taste different in Aus/UK

I agree that gooseberries are pretty nasty. They have hard skins, are very acid and have large gritty seeds in the middle. The taste is alright if you pick them ripe and stew them or cook them in...

I wouldn't be worrying about snakes when there are European wasps and jack jumper ants out in large numbers every spring/summer. Both of these insects are particularly nasty and can cause fatal...

Re: The snakes in Australia

I've seen two snakes in 30 years and most people I know will tell you the same. I spend a lot of time out walking in the bush and in rural areas. Many people have never seen one.

That's not to say...

They don't cause problems for most people.

Like most wild animals they prefer to stay away from humans as much as possible although where housing estates and development is encroaching into...
