You're Joking: This british beach is NOT better than ours

Australia has beaches like the one in that article anyway.

Many of the beaches on the Great Ocean road are like that, particularly the Apollo Bay beach. Wide and sandy along a small bay with lush green hills as a backdrop and it even has the cold water temperatures and lack of days in summer warm enough to swim that that Welsh beach has.

Here's one of my favourites from the area, Johanna beach on the western side of Cape Otway. It's a dangerous surf beach though and has held professional world surfing competitions so not really family friendly.

It is the incredible insecurity, the need to defend everything and get indignant about stuff like this. The country needs to grow up.

In my estimation, and if it's of any consolation, prices in the UK have also doubled in the last 10-15 years.

In fact, the DT has just done a good piece on how prices in Britain have tripled over the last 30 years.

I've never heard anyone other than poms objecting to paying inflated prices. They just cough up and quietly pay. It puzzles me, this culture of silent acceptance.

And while mine and the boss's combined incomes place us quite a bit above average I see loads who drive big top-ish of the range cars, they have boats and caravans, and go on very expensive holidays, etc. Then we visit them in their big and smart homes and they have expensive showhome style furnishings and kitchens. The wealth is palpable. Which is great, but as we drive in our battered old car back to our rented home full of aging and worn out looking furnishings we can't help wondering to ourselves: where do they get it all from?

I must say I never had any desire to own a boat in the UK, but after spending g mny weekends on one on Sydney harbour the desire has never been greater. I think its time to bogans up

noooo- they are a pain to keep and maintain. Neighbours either side have boats and they are forever scrubbing, hosing, flushing etc- the stink of petrol is horrid as is the noise as they rev their engines. The boats are not even used every weekend, but sit cluttering up the driveways.

Take a timeshare in a boat if you must, then you don't have to maintain it! 'Tis expensive though.
