Re: Anyone kept a business back in the U.S?

In order to pay taxes here, you need to be registered with HMRC and, if you're living here, you have to pay UK taxes (which generally then means you don't pay in the US although you still have to...

Re: A bouquet to the NHS

I had some female issues last year. Saw my doctor right away. She was concerned something serious could be going on, so sent me to a specialist. Got in to see him within 10 days and had tests that...

Re: Anyone kept a business back in the U.S?

Yes!

Ours is a service business and our employees are freelancers.

We kept the website hosted in the US and kept our US freelancers. But we had to register the business as a UK business and we...

Re: Advice re: where to move in the UK please

If I had to live down south, I think Norfolk would be my choice. The prices are reasonable and it is beautiful (although very flat). Good luck choosing!

PS: Our rental included dishwasher,...

Re: 5 Years On

I saw this too and thought of scot47. Also had a look at the island and thought 'right, that's a place I can go if I ever decide to move.' It looks beautiful and housing is so cheap compared to here!

Re: Moving back biggest mistake

I agree that it's important to take time to really think through what is making you unhappy - but also think about what you have here that wouldn't have in America, because it's easy to fall again...

Re: Keep chasing dreams or move back?

I'm not actually shocked. It was a lighthearted comment.

But sometimes, people can have experiences and perceptions totally different from yours. It's not that hard to imagine it if you try :)

Re: Keep chasing dreams or move back?

It's just like people. If you don't see someone for 20 years, you are shocked to find that they have aged - even though realistically you know that must be the case. Things just get locked in our...

Re: Keep chasing dreams or move back?

Thanks so much for the kind words. I work very hard at it and there are many failures to get to one good painting, but I enjoy it despite the struggles :)

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

The good thing is that Manchester has changed enormously since the bombing. It's very well-to-do and cosmopolitan now, and I think is has become the UK's second city as far as culture goes. You can...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Lovely to hear from you! My mum used to live near Millom (The Hill) and had a view out over the estuary that was lovely. She moved recently though to be closer to me.

I'm so glad you're happy and...

Re: Keep chasing dreams or move back?

There is absolutely nothing to stop you pursuing your writing career just because you don't live in LA or have a Masters degree. In fact, I'd bet that a Masters degree makes very little difference...

Re: To come back or not?

I moved back three and a half years ago and love every minute of it. Best thing I ever did. If I was a religious person, I'd thank God every day for my decision to come back.

BUT, my answering...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

trottytrue, I am so sorry to hear about your husband. My mother-in-law has dementia and I think her husband is now starting with it. As the main carer, it's vital that you take care of yourself. I'm...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Can't believe you were here and didn't let me know - we'd have had our kettle on too! I'm so glad you had a nice time and that you enjoyed our lovely Autumn weather. It's finally starting to feel a...

Re: 5 Years On

I'm with you. When we moved back, I said the same as Hotscot. I was planning to go all over Europe and see all the things I've been missing.

But a funny thing happened once I got home to Yorkshire...

Re: A voice from the past.

Hi Whofan, and welcome to God's country. I always was a bit worried about you, over there in Lancashire, so it's nice to know you made it to the right side of the Pennines ;-)

What happened to the...

Re: The Road to Little Dribbling

Really looking forward to the...

How do you know it would be tragic? If you have a crystal ball, perhaps you could let me know what's in store for me

I'm always impressed when people are willing and eager for change at any...

Re: Over 40's Moving Back and Catching Up

Last week, I went to the funeral of a childhood friend's dad. We were best friends from 13 to 18, and then we drifted apart but when I came home we reconnected and we're still "besties." Anyway,...

Hi trotty, I hope all is well with you!

I don't have a site with photos I'm afraid, although it is me who has an art website :) I'll have to take some garden photos and post them here, although...
