I got a utility but have a kitchen worktop over the washer and tumbler with a fitted cupboard for the detergents and stuff.

yes there would be two incomes, but 400 a week on 45 is not so disimilar to £730 a month on 24k in uk.

Just been looking here for a guide to what we would expect to pay after reading the thread about living costs. I am finding plenty of pleasant looking homes within 30 km of Melbourne for $400 a week...

Doesn't say where abouts, its a bit like the sort of job advert you expect in a national paper, no specifics. But if logistics has anything to do with it i would say a large hgv/bus dealer wouldn't...

Average pay for Diesel fitters

A guy who's job i filled emigrated to australia and i have since been in touch with him. He's working on the road trains and hgv's and claims he is being paid $34.65 an hour at 50 hours a week....
