Re: WILL our kingdom stay united?

I agree (mainly) - I think it will be a close no, but this will not be the end of the matter and it will rumble on. A more federal UK (which is the only reasonable way out of this mess IMO) should...

Re: Curveball Interview questions

Based on a number of factors, the most significant being the number of glasses of wine consumed this evening, I go with "yes".

But that's the obvious answer, so probably wrong. I wouldn't employ...

Re: Curveball Interview questions

White - house at North Pole.

I would probably ask an apprentice aero engineer why wings work upside down...just because I'd like to know, I looked this up once and still don't understand it.

Re: Any problems getting a SIN as a PR recently?

Just to further confirm what others have said:

We collected our new SINs today, without PR cards (which we are still waiting for), just with the documentation attached to the passport on landing....

Re: AOR from London June/July 2010 - Progress updates

Thanks, hopefully won't be too long for you - once they really started processing our app, things moved pretty quickly. :fingerscrossed:

Re: AOR from London June/July 2010 - Progress updates

Landed today :)

In the end we decided not to flagpole and spent a night in the US.

The whole process took about 70 mins (this was at the Rainbow bridge in Niagara). There are 6 of us so it took...

Re: AOR from London June/July 2010 - Progress updates

Visas received today :)

Need to read them through carefully tonight but all looks OK. Looks like we will be flagpoling/landing soon.

Re: Medicals in Canada

We requested ours were sent by courier to Ottawa. DMP's office in Toronto gave us the tracking no when they sent them so we could see online when it was signed for on delivery.

Dunno if all DMPs...

Re: AOR from London June/July 2010 - Progress updates

Yes, we were requested most of this IIRC. I suspect it's just because so long has elapsed since the original forms that they want updated info to make sure everything is still current. Luckily it's...

Re: AOR from London June/July 2010 - Progress updates

Passport requests received today via e-mail :D Was half hoping for this as our address had been updated on ECAS this week.

Next stage looks pretty straightforward (if a bit nerve wracking) -...

Re: AOR from London June/July 2010 - Progress updates

Thanks, and wow, that's quick!

Would love to have visas ASAP but if it takes into the New Year I'm not too worried, at least we are not waiting to move anywhere.

I'm just hoping nothing came up...

Re: AOR from London June/July 2010 - Progress updates

Did our meds yesterday. A fun trek into Toronto with the kids.

Height, weight, blood test, urine sample, chest x-ray. Been on a bit of a diet and detox for a couple of weeks, hope it was worth it,...

Re: AOR from London June/July 2010 - Progress updates

It was basically an intra company transfer. I'm doing the same job here in Canada that I was doing in London.

But I now have some Canadian people working for me and any future new employees may be...

Re: AOR from London June/July 2010 - Progress updates

TBH I don't know. It seems to be me that FSW2 could be simpler to do, but there's nothing on any official site or documentation that I can see that indicates shorter processing times. I'm not even...

Re: AOR from London June/July 2010 - Progress updates

Update - Med Requests received today :D:D

It's been redirected from our old address which suggests the new address hasn't got through the system yet. They're also asking for updated proof...

Re: Burlington ON ....so many questions :)

I can only really comment on Burlington but here are a few thoughts

You need to decide which area of the town you want to live in. Generally speaking things get more expensive as you get nearer...

Re: AOR from London June/July 2010 - Progress updates

Checked ECAS this evening and maybe, just maybe, some movement

My address has disappeared, application status is still "In process". But when I click the "In process" link for details,...

Re: Tax expert needed.

SWMBO does very similar. Admittedly this is not quite the same situation as she is not working full time, just doing some intermittent work from home for a firm she used to work for in the UK.

The...

Re: Cat 2 - is it taking a long time or is it just us?

Interesting, that wasn't what I was advised by my lawyer who renewed my TWP - he indicated there was a 5 years limit on stay, and thus my original 3 year TWP was only renewed for 2 years. Agree I...

Re: Cat 2 - is it taking a long time or is it just us?

It was a mistake to be honest. Although my firm do quite a lot of TWP and secondments, they aren't that familiar with the PR process or PNP. Looking at the timescales at the time Cat 2 looked fine....

Re: Cat 2 - is it taking a long time or is it just us?

Certainly taking a long time here.

I can't really see why, I feel our application should be simple to process and establish the fact it's genuine. We've been here 3 years, I have TWP, SIN, tax...

Re: 6 month anniversary today - when does it get easier?

I'd mainly agree with this.

I commute Appleby <-> Burlington 2/3 times per week and work at home the rest of the time. My office is walkable from Union so it can be done in 60 mins door to door...

Re: leasing a car

It is possible - we arrived and got a minivan through leasebusters after only about 8 weeks here.

It was extremely difficult to do though, and we had to provide an initial security deposit (of...

Re: Linked in - Immigration thread. Not the most fair policy I have ever seen

Good question, I really don't know tbh. The description of how files are processed suggests they check for contents quite early which would imply they would see the TWP and so would know it's FSW2....
