Re: Pet Peeves?

If fog/auxiliary lights are used as 'Moose lights', they would only be effective in the dark, at low speeds. NOT during broad daylight...

Re: Let's talk about cars

Sadly not the case here, though mostly that's from the rednecks. More sophisticated people seem to like it. I would have either bought a LHD or converted this one if it was staying here, but driving...

Property prices are quite reasonable. We bought...

Re: Let's talk about cars

Not necessary if you're smart.

I moved here in '94 to volunteer with the U.S. Forest Service, on a J-1. Long...

All:

I'm a Brit, my wife is American. We currently live in Eastern Oregon (I've been here since '94). We plan to retire to St. Thomas, in the U.S. Virgin Islands in a few years. We did a load of...

Re: Pet Peeves?

"You must be from Australia".

People who drive about with their fog lights on all the time.

Ignorant rednecks

Folks who are convinced that everything is because of god.

Re: Why the USA ?

Well said. The last thing my Dad told me before I left was "Remember. America is a completely foreign country, where they happen to speak English".

Also, I thought Oz was hard to get into these...

There's an Austin 1100 on the Portland (Oregon) Craigslist right now. Rubbish then, rubbish now!

Re: 6+ seater vehicles

Land Rover Discovery 3, known here as the 'LR3'. Seats for 7 adults. You might be hard pressed to find a decent one for $20k but my '08 is a fantastic rig. The 4.4 Jag V8 is silky smooth, and it gets...

Re: Name of the new movie- UK gal & US guy?

I've actually been through a similar experience (refused entry to the US & forced to return to the UK immediately, at a cost of one million dollars) so it will be interesting to watch. Never heard of...

All:

I heard a review on the radio this morning about a movie featuring a British girl who falls in love with an American, and falls foul of the US immigration system. I missed the movie title. Do...

Re: Best pint of Guinness in the District?

Re: Scottish vs American Kilts

Most of the kilts I see in the US are way too short.

As I understand it, a kilt should be long enough that you can kneel on the edge when you kneel down.

I lived in the Scottish Highlands for...

Re: RECENT TRIP TO ENGLAND

Respectfully disagree, especially on the car insurance thing. I am still mystified at how low the auto rates are here.

Re: Choosing a car, suggestions for snow!

+1 for a Subaru. If you get an outback, buy one from after '98.

+1 for Land Rover also- Discoveries are cheap here, plus I think it's kinda cool to be driving a British rig. The '04 was the best-...
