Re: Searching for a job in Canada

Yep - it still surprises me, even though I'm quite used to doing it now, how people are actually open to talking about their company, job, sector etc when I'm cold (or even warm) calling - part of me...

Re: Bunac student visa with full-time job..wanting to stay PLEASE HELP!

Regarding taking the BUNAC Visas back-to-back; there was a period (for most of last year) where you could apply for a student 2009 Visa and be eligible for a non-student one in 2010, due to a few...

Re: The BUNAC year in Canada and Canadian cities

Based on these couple of sentences I'd say you'd be better suited to Toronto than Vancouver (maybe Calgary & Edmonton too, but can't comment first hand), there was a TO Vs Van discussion here...

Re: General Working Holiday Programme

It originally was, as it stands for 'British Universities North America Club', but now they deal with both the student and non-student side, as Chance says.

Re: Toronto or Vancouver

If he can see them through the clouds that is :p...seriously they are very pretty with snow on them and I do remember looking up at them when it was unseasonably warm/clear back in February working...

Re: Toronto or Vancouver

Interesting - when I was there earlier this year I played touch rugby with a guy born and raised in Vancouver, but as a result of working in the film industry had also lived in TO, Montreal, and...

Re: Toronto or Vancouver

And that's exactly what happened the first time I was there in '07 - had a great time and made quite a few friends. By the time I went back in January this year most of them had left though, either...

Re: Toronto or Vancouver

Fair enough regarding your preference for Vancouver from an aesthetic point of view, I disagree but different strokes etc. In what sense is it studied around the world though? This is a genuine...

Re: Toronto or Vancouver

Yeah, and if people have one or more of a partner, kids, and a job to keep them busy they're perhaps less likely to notice these kind of things than someone who's single and looking for a job, or it...

Re: Toronto or Vancouver

I assume you mean that in reference to my last paragraph and opinions on Vancouver? I should mention also that I'm spouseless, kidless & jobless so these things inevitably factor in.

I have to...

Re: Toronto or Vancouver

Basically agree with all of that although would slightly contest the bit in bold - while clearly Vancouver is in a more beautiful setting, IMO I don't think much of what's man-made there is...

Re: Getting your hair cut - Lingo?

Ditto.

Not sure about that...I got a 3 or 4 on the back & sides in England, here I have a 1.5 and it doesn't seem any shorter...according to him the numbers are different (that may just be him...

Re: Renewable energy, British Columbia

I was looking for a job in that sector in Vancouver earlier this year, although I moved to Toronto in July. I should note that the move was mainly for personal reasons though, and had I looked for...

Quite - I think that's basically your personal interpretation of what's stated in this wiki article...

Re: Something you should check as part of your decision to move

Indeed - basically no news is bad news. I don't really mind it that much either and I know it happens in the UK too, if not quite standard practice as it is in Canada. Moreover, given the importance...

Re: Is it really better in Canada?

Is it even that Canada is behind technologically, or is that a broadly similar level of technology is available but people just aren't as bothered about it (apart, perhaps, from the obligatory...

Re: DID YOU FIT IN OR FEEL ON THE OUTSIDE ?

I've sensed an east/west discrepancy too, kind of like the north/south one in England (in terms of how friendly, or not, people are). I guess some people are not all that sensitive to this kind of...

Re: DID YOU FIT IN OR FEEL ON THE OUTSIDE ?

Hi Zibby, what you've written is very similar to what I've been feeling recently. I did my first stint here in '07 with a WH Visa and really enjoyed it so I came back in January for another go, being...

Re: Is it too early? World Cup 2010 and Vancouver

Yep I know the guy who created and has been promoting this 'England House' and it looks like the turnout should be pretty good, especially for the first game. Just a minor update; the Slovenia game...

Re: Bunac/Endsleigh 1 Year Travel Insurance - Overpriced?

I went with STA myself, were very helpful on the phone (which others were too, but some certainly weren't), but more importantly because they included quite a lot under standard sports and activities...

Re: I want to move to Canada!

I think they ran out of student Visas last year, as I had a friend who wanted to apply around October (so pretty late, but he qualified as a student) and was told the program was full. Certainly in...

Re: Finding the job offer...

If you're both 30 couldn't you get BUNAC Visas? Or does the fact that you have a son, or something else I may have missed mean you can't (the age thing won't be a problem, you have to submit your...

Re: Changing the Date of the Return Flight

I don't really think the BUNAC flights offer much over doing it independently bar giving you a group to be on the flight with, and a few extras (first night in hostel, transfer from airport, etc) -...

Re: Stating Immigration Intent on Covering Letter?

Thanks for the reply, sounds like a good plan, I'll try and keep it relatively sshort albeit the possibility of a second BUNAC Visa is what's creating complication (as I won't be able to say for sure...
