Hi All,
Its been a while since we looked into this, and starting it all up again after the birth of our son.
Me and my partner are both 30 (turn 31 in Oct and Sept). I work as a Sales and Applications Engineer (field based) for a Global Instrumentation manufacturer. I have been working there for approx 30 months. Previous roles are similar with different titles (Area Sales Engineer, Area Sales Manager etc) all in all I have 7 years external Sales Engineering experience. I have an indentured Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship, along with College / University courses of BTEC ONC Mechanical Engineering, BTEC HNC Computer Aided Design, NVQ Level 2 (Engineering Manufacture) & 3 (Engineering Production. NVQ Key Skills Level 2 (Engineering Manufacture) and 3 (Technical Leadership). I am also an IQA Qualified Internal Auditor. I have numerous Sales Training Courses that companies have sent me on also. I dont have a degree!!
My Partner works part time as a Dental Nurse and Receptionist.
Ive had a look on monster.ca and jobbank, but not sure if these are the places to go...
There is emigration expo in March in London, Opportunites Canada http://www.expo-canada.com/) which we are looking to attend, does anyone have experience of these?
We would ideally like to go to BC, having loved it while visiting. Also been to ON on more occasions I can remember, but BC was amazing.
We want to get a job offer first, and not ideally go down the temp route, for security with the young family.
Ive modified my CV (resume), but dont know where to star.
Any help would be great.
Cheers...Lee

Unless your skills are in high demand and/or a shortage situation, getting a job offer from overseas and without residency are next to nil. Few employers will wait the 6-12 months it takes to get the permits.

Also, have you read the Job Hunting section of the Wiki (on blue bar at top of page)?
Good luck.

You may have to re-think your viewpoint on the temp route. As The Aviator said, very few employers will offer you a job and then be happy to wait a year for you to get PR before starting.

Thanks for your response, think this may well be something to think about, do you know of any limitations on temp route?
Ive started going through the wiki, a great deal to go through and very comprehensive.
life is nothing without the dreams....

thanks again,

It's not permanent, so there is always the possibility of having to go back from whence you came when it runs out. Getting a temp permit is no surety of getting permanent residence. There are no medicals required for a TWP I believe, as there are for permanent, so if you find you fail the medical (as has recently happened in QC), you need to be prepared to go back. Temporary always has some risk attached, but it is a faster route in these days.

From experience (a prospective employer interviewed me 4 times over the phone and wanted me to fly over to Victoria Jan 2009, and my current interested employer in Halifax) I would say that out of the 500+ applications (no joke) that I've made over the past 18 months, I've only managed to get my foot in the door twice. The first time I missed out due to bad timing and they ended up employing a local. This time, I posses specific skills to fit their immediate requirements....although it could all go horribly wrong as I'm waiting for a positive outcome on the LMO

Our route if succesfull will be; Job offer + LMO = TWP then TWP + PNP = PR
In short, nothing is impossible, but be prepared for a long haul if you choose this route only, unless you really do have a unique selling point.
I also went the the Liverpool and Leeds expo, and for the main part it didn't provide me with anything I didn't already know from speaking to the nice peeps on here.
Bonne Chance!!

If you're both 30 couldn't you get BUNAC Visas? Or does the fact that you have a son, or something else I may have missed mean you can't (the age thing won't be a problem, you have to submit your applications to the CHC before you turn 31 but as the deadline's the end of the month anyway that wouldn't be an issue...)?

I started my Bunac registration last night, I'm quite shocked at how much it costs though, especially as my girlfriend is Japanese and only has to pay the Embassy costs of around £90. With Bunac it is £205 before you have even started to complete the application form, unfortunately though it seems like the application for UK Citizens needs to be done through them.
Apparently the application just needs to be processed before your 31st birthday, you can leave for Canada within one year of the approval being granted regardless of whether or not you are already 31. I don't think that they will allow you to take dependents with you though so in your case it may not be the best option.

Me and my fiance just turned 31 last month. We have 3 children 13, 5 and 3 so its tough to say the least. We went to the Canada Expo in Olympia, London in Nov 07. It wasn't as i expected and to be honest i got more off this site. It really depends what industry your in. It was quite small and most of the booths were Engineering companies. There was also one immigration agency Wills & Brazalot (or there abouts) they offered an eligibility assessment for £10 but again nothing you cant get from any of the immigrations websites.
I went to B.C in November and fell in love. I also got offered a job by company who own the company i work for in London. I do credit control so not one of the most skills in need but i am in the process of trying to get a Visa for me and my family to go. To be honest networking really helps but you really need to be there to do it. I was just in the right place at the right time. I just hope it all works out because i cant bear bringing up my kids or even seeing myself in London for much longer.
I hope it all works out and the employer has patience.
Good Luck
