Re: Work Permit/How Long?

Hi Simon,

I'm not sure if someone answered this elsewhere already but the point some of us have made in the past about proving self-sufficiency is generally for more longer-term visas than the...

Re: Any one know ''Cesarean delivery cost in Barbados QEH hospital?

I think this guy's a wind-up merchant, to be honest (sorry mods, not trying to be offensive). Why would someone come on to a forum where we all talk at such length about how to stay in Barbados...

Re: student visas

Hi 747, have PM'd you about our situation to explain that it is possible to organise student visas for your kids once your residency is arranged (ours is on the basis of income from abroad/savings,...

Re: Mosquitos

Have heard the same as you guys - there was an article last week saying there have been twice as many dengue cases this year as last in Barbados, but can't find the link to it now. I think there the...

Re: Set the record straight

Agree with the posters above, just ignore the pathetic hateful hack with nothing better to do! Even a cursory glance over old threads on this board would prove to anyone how much helpful advice...

Re: 2 burglaries in 2 months

I'm so sorry to hear this, that's a sobering account for all of us and a timely reminder to be careful. We all take our personal safety and security for granted until something happens, I know...

Re: cockleshell apartments and fitts village

I don't know what the apartments or facilities are like, but I hear there are some beautiful views and you'll be right on the beach. I think Fitts is a great location too, easy access to almost...

Re: Imigration

747, I think it is true to say that it's harder to get residency now, although technically the rules haven't changed.

We were given 3 years residency based on our ability to support ourselves...

Re: travel time from paynes bay to paradise beach

I would guess certainly less than 15 minutes, but I never really drive down there at that time of day. Paynes Bay is pretty close to Paradise Beach so even with morning traffic, it won't be long.

Re: whats rockley golf club like to live at

Sorry, I was a little unclear there, it had been a long day lol ;)

I meant that point more generally - gated communities, golf communities, larger developments etc. are great in the short-term. We...

Re: whats rockley golf club like to live at

I think it's a good idea to live on a community like the golf club at Rockley if you're here for a relatively short period of time. It's easier to meet other ex-pats and create a social life...

Re: totally confused by laws

Yes, I definitely think they're making it up as they go along LOL! I'm not sure the Green Paper has helped with that, either - they seem more confused than ever.

Re: totally confused by laws

Hmmm........ Your solicitor was being kind of cautious, I think. You can get the 3-year visitor visa if you're under 60, so long as you've got plenty of evidence to show you can support yourself...

Re: Moving to Barbados

Well, I think some of your fears are well-founded. Lots of the ex-pats here are couples or older people, and a lot of the ex-pat groups focus on arranging activities best-suited to families.

That...

Re: moving to paradise with kids

No, you can get visas for your kids to go to school if you've got other kinds of status. We don't have work permits, but our kids had no problems.

Re: Work Permits

Well, anyone that can afford to support themselves without taking a job from a Bajan person is (technically) welcome.

My own situation is that we have 3 years residency that allows us to stay but...

Re: Work Permits

No one on here will be able to tell you any more than hearsay to be honest, because the granting of work permits seems entirely arbitrary depending on the immigration officer(s) you deal with.

Re: Immigration advice required

I'd get an accountant to check out your tax situation.

4 months a year would put you over the maximum 91 days you're allowed to be in the country to qualify for tax exemption, so you'd probably...
