Re: Auckland - I wouldn't

I don't understand your point.

It is very hard to gauge a city before living in it.

I have lived in it, and now I am presenting a brief summary of my experiences of it.

I am not seeking any...

Re: Auckland - I wouldn't

Its not moaning for the sake of it! We have a huge mortgage, live in a shoe box, and my wife has a 2 hour commute into work. That's Auckland!

Re: Any positive stories?

Ps I would say it's no better no worse. I don't have significant family to miss and my other half isn't fussed. The kids miss their gps though so that's a shame :(

Re: Any positive stories?

Reading thru the cutting irony, many of those points come down to money. And as I say in my Auckland - I wouldn't legendary post you've got to have a shed load of it to make your life here vaguely...

Re: Any positive stories?

I would never say its a bad idea. All of the countless surveys put NZ way ahead of the UK. It is a great place to live in my view.

The negativity as far as I can see comes down to two main...

Auckland - I wouldn't

We moved in 2011. We have endured four years in Auckland.
Anyone thinking of moving here, I can honestly say that you really need to think twice about Auckland. The traffic is utterly horrendous...

re: NZ or UK - HGV driver & legal secretary + 1 child.

Beware: generally speaking, you don't move to NZ to put yourself on a better footing financially. In some cases, you may however - you may be lucky to find better paid work, but I would say that...

Direct FX for Currency Exchange instead of HiFX

Hi there,
I am thinking of changing from HiFX to Direct FX for Currency Exchange.
Could anyone tell me if they have used Direct FX before?

Thanks!

Re: Health insurance and pre-existing conditions

Southern Cross do cover where you have to have it for 3 years before they will cover pre-existing conditions. In those 3 years, your premiums are higher. I pay 175 dollars a month for just me,...

Re: I just got a tax rebate

An uninteresting footnote to this - MyTax were having a laugh. I have hired a new accountant as I have a freelance position now. The accountant worked out my tax rebate and as it happens I owe 57...

With tax rebate companies, you still have to wait 10 weeks. So you would not get it any quicker...

Re: Working for a UK company in NZ

The accountant I spoke to did not tell me that they would charge me $600 for advice - they just sent me the bill. I assumed naively that it was just a casual email conversation.

Anyway, yes, on...

Re: Working for a UK company in NZ

I'm working for a UK company from over here. They are paying me gross and I am sorting out the tax. Having paid $600 for advice, I am doing an IR56. That is, I am doing my own PAYE. I am now on...

Re: LA Stopover

You'll find the staff at LAX the most miserable in my estimation in the whole of the US.
I've done the US quite a bit on business, and once even the air steward warned us to that effect, and she...

Re: moving in 12 weeks good subrb to live and School System

You cant go wrong with the North Shore except for the commute across the bridge and SH1 (Northern Motorway).
You may be better off finding somewhere on a train line - we originally favoured West...

Re: I just got a tax rebate

I did mine through Mytax. It was easy as. Although, in retrospect, I wish I had done it myself. If I had bothered to read the fee structure and realised that I hadn't already received it through...

Re: $95k in Auckland

I am a die hard NZ fan but even I (after years of denying it) acknowledge that NZ (particularly Auckland) is very expensive. 95k with a family will be extremely tight.

It does come down to what...

I just got a tax rebate

Silly old me - expected that my tax would be automatically adjusted through a tax code. No, apparently, in NZ, you have to claim overpaid tax back.

I came in Sep 2011, halfway through the tax...

Re: Ex-Military Background

For Oz, Iran would be considered to be a high risk country. Not sure how the immigration system works in this regard in NZ.
