Re: Cleaning before shipping

Pet hair on an old blanket that I was just using to wrap a fragile item is the bane of my existence!

It's not like you can just say, "Oh, I don't want that anyway...please just throw it in the...

Smile Re: Current Processing Times (continued)

We were fortunate to have an Australian govt. sponsored job – their recruiting department was very on the ball and helped guide the process effectively.

:)This should give you a little hope...

Red face Re: South Yarra Charlotte seeks Carrie & Co..

Sounds good. We're a solid MAYBE, as our shipment is supposed to come in Friday and we have house guests next week (and a totally empty house as of this moment).:(

Did anyone ship a vacuum when...

Smile Re: South Yarra Charlotte seeks Carrie & Co..

That would be great to lay about in the park!

Plus it's easier to hear than a club venue, so even us Yanks will be able to keep up with the conversation...lol!

What are the specifics? Meet...

Re: Medicals: Protein in my urine - DRINK LOTS OF WATER!

For 457 we only had X-rays.

For PR, we had to do:
- X-rays again (it was just easier than tracking down the ones we had done last month for 457's, having them sent to a govt approved radiologist,...

Red face Medicals: Protein in my urine - DRINK LOTS OF WATER!

Just wanted to share my experience if it will help others cope should this happen to you....

It's been extremely hot in Melbourne and I'm not used to the taste of the water. When we had our...

Re: South Yarra Charlotte seeks Carrie & Co..

:)

Thanks everybody - that was incredibly fun! This morning wasn't too rough - I tried to recreate the passion fruit / vanilla vodka / chocolate liquer number at home instead of working...

Smile Re: Best place to live in Melbourne? (young, and no family!)

We just moved to South Yarra and I went to school in Canada (Kingston).

Canada is cold. That's about all I have to say about that.

South Yarra, however, is SO fun and SO close to everything....

Red face Re: South Yarra Charlotte seeks Carrie & Co..

Oh please! Please can Yanks come too?

We are just here a few weeks ago, mid 30's, no kids, live behind the S. Yarra train station, have seen every episode of Sex in the City and I am an...

Re: What are we missing? Scary time!

Goll you guys. Is it because I'm just stressed out that I regret posting?

My husband has a PhD in water resources and is somewhat well known globally for his research.

I highly doubt the...

Smile Approved 2 days after X-rays arrived

Wow... all that worrying paid off...it looks like the 457's were approved and they just recieved our chest x-rays two days ago. The whole process took less than a month.

This is embarrassing but...

Re: What are we missing? Scary time!

They offered PR from the start, but did not think it would be processed by the time they wanted us there.

Is that incorrect, that they take longer and are more complicated to get issued?

Re: What are we missing? Scary time!

We were told that we could get 457's more efficiently given the aggressive timeline.

My husband will start the process for employer sponsored permanent residence once we clear the moving...

Re: Jealousy?

I notice that the finances of immigrating seem to be a common denominator for awkwardness. While it would be rare to ask how much the shoes you are wearing cost, we have had a lot of people ask how...

Re: Anyone done 457 paper application?

How long to get scheduled for your medicals?
How long after that did they go in?
How long after that did you get your 457?

That is about the best news I've heard in a LONG time!

Re: Anyone done 457 paper application?

Hi John -

I did the online version yesterday. Are you using the "TRN" (Transaction Reference Number) or the other code they give you at the end, when you save your work?

It's the TRN you need...

Red face Re: How long after meds and police checks

When I printed my online copy of our 457 applications, the final screen said to print the forms for our medicals, and pointed us to different physicians who are approved to perform them.

Then we...

Re: Can we get benefits on 457 visa

I thought I read that you may be entitled to Medicare if you are on a 457 but have applied for PR.

Has anyone ever heard of that?

I noticed a thread here recently of a woman with a gastric band and never did find out if having one precludes immigration?

Both my husband and I have them. I can't see as how they are a medical...

Re: Can I come in on a tourist visa while I wait for my 457?

Thank you, thank you, thank you! All good news.

If we did have to come in on a tourist visa, I would be glad to have to be "tourists" (not working) for a while.

I've just always heard that...

Can I come in on a tourist visa while I wait for my 457?

My husband has a confirmed job offer. He can start as soon as we can arrive.

We bought one way flights for December 25th (they were less expensive that day!).

His employer intends to sponsor...
