That is correct you don't need citizenship, permanent residency will suffice (no other type of vise e.g 457 etc).

It will be a lot easier if you have a permanent visa, they do not tend to be as rigorous on lateral entry, and will from what I know give you a good go at applying if you have more than 10years...

Shift penalties are handy every fortnight if you work shifts, which all GD's do, roster well watch this space with the reform process underway there is talk of a metro wide roster giving you an idea...

They are strict with service dates, check out the FAQ section on the stepforward web site, not a day more than ten,(unless they change it down the track but wont hold my breath).
