The only advantage of Freeview is that you can get HD for free. With Sky even the basic HD channels (i.e. films on One) require an MySky HDI box ($15 per month) plus an HD...

Saw a Katipo or more likely a False Katipo (or maybe a Redback - but not supposed to be in Wellington) in my garage yesterday.

I took a couple of photo's on the drive but they aren't too clear...

When we were house hunting we saw a few houses which looked (and smelt) like "Leakers" but the agent promised they weren't....

Many cafes do offer free wifi - but you can also buy a card from CafeNet which allows wifi access at many cafes.

There are very few 'free' wifi zones but the tow that spring to mind in Wellington...

Hataitai is nice. Think about Miramar and Seatoun ....they are great suburbs. Very close to the city (not quite walking but short bus or flat cycle ride). Thorndon tends to be pricey

Auckland is many times bigger than Wellignton and the sections are in general larger so you will have more chance at a decent rental....but it will still be a hard job!

Trying to find short term rentals, motel and hostels during the school holidays here will be trickier but not un-doable especially if you stay away from the Kiwi...
