True. Oddly, there is less difference in restaurant prices, though there
aren't many really high end ones here like you find in London. Pubs are
much cheaper here though. Not a massive difference in public transport
costs either. I was accosted by some council workers promoting litter
awareness this morning while waiting for the expensive tram for a trip
outside the centre of the city. Boy, they picked the wrong person...

The main cost which affects people living in London (as opposed to
visiting) IMO is housing. I'd have to be extremely wealthy to have the
kind of flat I do here (in Manchester) if I was living almost anywhere
in London. If I had the money, I'd live in London though. It's such a
great city IMO.

If I had the money Id probably be in Helford but a LOndon riverfront
penthouse would be a nice second best, (you can have chez Reid for 1/2
a million if you like).

If I had the money, I'd have a London riverfront property _and_ a nice
cottage somewhere rural, but walking distance (2 miles would be fine) to
a train station. That might help answer another question you had
recently...

I find the 'high end' restaurants in London often don't deliver the sort of
wonderful food you expect because they're far too busy being fashionable.

They also come with rude staff, long waits and uncomfortable chairs that
look very nice.

I'll stick with the sort of provincial restaurant where the boss talks to
his customers and the food tastes good, even if they are cheaper and the
decor is straight out of a Milan design house...

I would confess I've never been to a high end restaurant there. I'm
tempted by Ramsay's though, and will probably go there on a special
occasion.

I have long found it curious why it took so long for riverfront
development of high end housing to flourish in London....

It's been around for two decades.

Yet there is still quite a lot of riverfront space that has no
development on it.

heh heh heh. No train station in 2 miles of Helford, theres a ferry
across the passage and walkable pubs in two directions. Probably 5
mile walk to a decent sized shop?

Rude staff? Nowhere high end ive been. None of that relects my
expereince of high end restros.

Ramsay is probably the best for "real" food. I'm not sure about
Gavaroche, keep considering it. The Ivy is of course excellent for
comfort food and all round pleasantness, if you can get a table.

I don't see any difference between high end London and provincial
restros, L'enclume could be in London once you are inside.

So? There are very few places I can think of where the entire riverfront
has been developed. Point is that the development there is not new at
all- it goes back a few decades. There are still some spots along the
Thames not turned into flats, sure.
