It was a much bigger result for 'Pool than for Utd. |
Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
Just watched the Liverpool Man Utd match repeated on Satanta today. As a neutral, Liverpool were very flattered by the score and fortunate to get away with a lot of persistent fouling. Mind you Berbatov and Valencia are very average and it was noticable Man Utd didn't make anything of quite a few free kicks just outside the penalty area.

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
I've stayed off this thread since the disastrous end to last season, but Fat Southern Bastard Mike Ashley has exceeded himself in alienating Toon fans by trying to sell "naming rights" for Saint James' Park.
The man needs an early grave. NUFC have played there for 108 years and now the tw*t wants to make a few bucks by calling it "Tim Horton's Stadium" or whatever the crassest possible equivalent in the UK may be these days. The bugger knows the price of everything but the worth of nothing. He's got to go. Oh.... Howay the lads!!! |

serious question. if the naming of the stadium allowed a massive influx of funds into the club, which lets just say for the sake of argument actually went to debt/new players/academy/benefit of the club not any individual, and consequently saw you promoted, would it be worth losing the history?

For Champions League games, UEFA calls it the Arsenal Stadium, as Emirates isn't a Champion's League sponsor and not allowed to be named in any official UEFA capacity, which is a stupid rule from them. |

Good luck against Sheffield. You'll soon be back at the top of the Championship.
Yes we have Rae, but there were (and still is) a section of fans who believe that it should still be called Ashburton Grove which is what it was first called. I think I've said this before, but it is 52 years since I first went to St. James' Park. In that time NUFC have been out of the top flight for at least half of the years and have won only one significant trophy. Makes no difference to me.

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
I genuinely can't see the problem here, unless of course you've got a UKIP "Save The Pound" type of entrenched jingoistic mindset. Is it any worse than having the Board of your club sell the front of the shirts to the highest bidder, like Northern Rock?
For real fans, surely the ground will always only be SJP, even if it's temporary official name is the Pedigree Chum Bonanzarama. You never know, it might even end up with a witty sponsor, The Newky Broon Groond or soemthing of that ilk. If my team could make a few bob off some clown who wanted to pay handsomely to rename Tannadice Stadium for a season or two, I don't think I'd have any problem at all... it would still "be" Tannadice to me. |

"Newcastle United have announced their stadium will be known as the sportsdirect.com @ St James' Park Stadium for the immediate future."
It's a funny name but personally, I thought the Mackems plan of raising the cash to buy the rights and calling it "Sid James' Park (Carry on in the Championship)" was funnier. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/foot...ed/8342406.stm |

"Sportsdirect.com@St. James' Park."
That is just plain desperate, as well as being offensive on so many levels. I have sympathy for real Toon fans who must hate seeing what's happening to their club. |

He's now managed to infuriate every Toon supporter and avoid raising any sponsorship money at a stroke. Pure genius. |

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
Drogba seemed to have been behaving himself this season but he was definately nowhere near the ball there and looking to "accidently" take Evans out in the air. I think Evans must have been watching a Cantona video the night before.

Dogba is actually doing well this season - top points scorer in my fantasy team. On his day he's unplayable but for someone with the build of a heavyweight boxer he's remarkably "fragile" at times! |

You can only just see it in the clip but Evans does actually head the ball. I think he sees Drogba following through late and sticks his leg out unnecessarily on the way down.

What about Liverpool's David N'Gog diving to win their penalty last night? Liverpool would have lost without it. |
