Got us worried by the possible consequences of a managerial merry-go-round.
With them wanting Bruce, Martinez may end up being target #1 for Wigan... All I can say is .... Bugger Off.. he's ours :sneaky: |

<although I don't really know what I'm talking about > Glasgow Celtic are apparently after him now :frown: As you don't know about him I'll update you, he's the 36 year old manager of Swansea, who's become the flavour of the month as the next big thing. Has Swansea playing fantastic entertaining football, getting us promoted from League One more than 10 points clear in his first full year as manager and then guiding us to 8th in the Championship, all on a shoestring. Some Newcastle fans have also identified him as their choice for manager (which would be a preference to me if we're going to lose him, rather than than him go to Wigan or Celtic). |

First big signing of the summer, not that he's after the money rather than European football

I agree it's for the money though. |

And it looks as though Real have signed Kaka for 56 million GBP

As the article points out though, at City and Villa he'd be almost guaranteed a place in the starting XI, whereas at any of the top 4 (except maybe Arsenal) he'd probably be used as part of a squad rotation.
In the event Man City are (one day) able to make a genuine challenge (and look how long it took Chelsea to make an impact once they had blank cheques) he may find he gets rotated anyway. At Liverpool he'd have at least been virtually guaranteed a share of CL appearances. Even if Man City were to get fourth next season, the seaon following they'd be playing off (in the new system) against the likes of Juventus or Milan rather than going straight into the league format. Barry could be past 30 by the time Man City succeeded and he might be much less a permanent feature in a team by then. |

Amid rumours that the Sultan of Oman is interested in buying NUFC, my favourite fan site posted this image...

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
The loss was mainly due to the £36m of interest payments..
Er, what's wrong with this picture... writing-off debt payments as losses, separating debt and profitability (and liability?) by using a parent company which owes an outrageous amounts of money. They make it all sound so trivial...

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...on-on-web.html Current bids for NUFC include:- "The amount I am offering is £10. Should I be successful, I will be appointing myself as team manager, as I am currently in a management role in the Peterlee Sunday League." "The amount I am offering is 2 x upper concourse seats for the Oasis concert at the Stadium of Light and a Curly Wurly." |

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
Now Real (finally) have Ronaldo (not the fat one) for £80M
The cynic in me says there is no way this is "real" money ('scuse the pun) they are spending, its just more debt that the Spanish government will bail them out off. UEFA/FIFA really need to get something in place regarding the debt level of clubs, otherwise there are going to be some very high profile casualties. I expect man U to make some high profile signings in the coming weeks. I hate to say it, but its probably a move that will make them even stronger. He's fantastically gifted, but surely a monumental pain in the arse to have around? Is there anyone more high maintainence? Hell, Rooney might get to play in the middle now (nah..we will just see more of berbatov, and perhaps tevez). That sort of money in the man U coffers is going to make it even harder for liverpool to land the missing pieces...assuming that they dont use it pay down the debt at the club (like that would ever happen!) |

Is there anyone more high maintainence? I agree with you that if, and this is a big if, Man U get the 80 UKP million quickly, they could get some big name players (hopefully w/o the prima donna attitude and guys who won't throw their toys out of the pram) that could only strengthen Man U (probably not what many want to hear) and they could gently show some players out the door (Scholes, Giggs and a big kick out the door to Gary Neville). |

Yes, it's also got me wondering if they'd be tempted to make a bid for Gerrard. I mean if they make a seriously large offer, how can Liverpool refuse?

Oh yeah, I forgot about le sulk...if truth were to be told, many of the french players in the Premier League have been high maintenance...Henry and Viera excepted.
Ive nothing against players moving for more money, but there are far classier ways to go about it than Ronaldo has shown. Still, I guess he's still pretty young, maybe there is hope for him yet to develop some class off the pitch, and no one in spain will care how much he dives. |

Is it just my opinion, olr does anything happening in English soccer draw unwanted interference from Septic Bladder whereas much more serious issues (such as setting off flares in Italy) are ignored. That sort of money in the man U coffers is going to make it even harder for liverpool to land the missing pieces...assuming that they dont use it pay down the debt at the club (like that would ever happen!) |

I was thinking more in terms of Man U tempting the likes of the Villas from Spain, or Seth Johnston etc... |
Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
There's also that french midfielder/forward, whatsisname, Ribery?
I'd like to see them bid 40-60 million for Gerard though, just to make the statement that they can (and the drama it will cause)

I should really get to grips with my cynicism shouldn't I;) |
