What a cock up on Setanta Canada though. They stayed for the trophy presentation before joining the Newcastle-Fulham game but didn't actually show any of it

Just had a shot of some of the crowd while you could hear what was happening...then they cut away for an interview with Arsene Wenger that was conducted in French.

Villa have been very poor of late, I can see you getting result.

I think your main concern will be which Man U turn up at Hull.

Possibly at least some of the less regular players. They've got a little tougher opposition a few days later which they'll probably rest a few players for.

Mistaken identity. KK was the Messiah. Big Al is only auditioning for the understudy job.

Don't think no blame will attach itself to Shearer, he came onto a sinking ship and couldn't bale out quick enough.

Yes, that was kind of odd...although the time did seem to be dragging...personally, to me when it comes to watching these players jump up and down together and pour fizzy wine on each other, I loose interest pretty quickly.

Great season by Man U, and hopefully they can keep Tevez...there really isn't any dead wood on the team other than Anderson and my least fave Neville.

I think he should take some responsibilty-they weren't in the relegation zone when he came. Certainly someone like 'Arry Redknapp would have led them to safety.

You'd have to think so. The NU players don't seem to be bad as individuals.

Lots of great individuals, but that seems to be the problem. None of them are the type of players for a relegation fight. All money grabbing mercenaries with no heart. Apart from Alan Smith. But these days he's about as much use on the pitch as a one legged man playing the banjo.

Aye, if they kept Allardyce I believe Newcastle would be comfortably mid-table. Instead Blackburn fans have the pleasure of watching giant monsters knock six bells of shit out the opposition whilst trying their upmost to keep the ball in the air as long as possible. I predict a rovers return for Kevin Davies.

Kev has his good moments, unfortunately none were whilst he was wearing a Blackburn shirt. We played reasonably ok against Chelski today, and passed quite a lot on the floor. Never really looked like scoring though!

I think Anderson is quite useful...while they're without Hargreaves. I wonder what'll happen if Anderson ever scores.
Has anyone noticed how Tevez looks a much better player coming into a game rather than starting one?

ok, so i am not doing very well at the moment, here is how it stands.

Aston Villa v Newcastle
Hull City v Man Utd
Sunderland v Chelsea
West Ham v Middlesbrough

16 Sunderland 37 -19 36
17 Hull 37 -24 35
18 Newcastle 37 -18 34
19 Middlesbrough 37 -28 32
20 West Brom 37 -31 31

so with these results,
villa 2 newcastle 0. (sorry novo)
hull 0 man utd 3
sunderland 0 chelsea 2
west ham 0 middlesbrough 0.

end table.

16 Sunderland 38 -19 36
17 Hull 38 -24 35
18 Newcastle 38 -18 34
19 Middlesbrough 38 -27 33
20 West Brom 38 -31 31

only potential i can see is for newcastle to nick a draw, but GD will still do them.

No. If we get a draw and Hull lose we survive. If Hull gets a draw we need to win (which won't happen).

Afterthought: If Hull and Toon win and the Mackems lose, they go down. How sweet would that be?

ah yes, its the minus goal difference, so of course it counts for you. can't see it though the way villa have been playing, if you were at home possibly, the chance was the other day i'm afraid, surprised they did not pick up points then.

According to BBC sport, this is Man U's lineup for tomorrow.

Man Utd (from): Kuszczak, Amos, Neville, Brown, De Laet, Ferdinand, Chester, Eckersley, Simpson, Fabio, Nani, Fletcher, Gibson, Tosic, Martin, Drinkwater, Macheda, Welbeck.

I suppose the team selection was predictable but I wouldn't even know where to begin guessing the result..could be anywhere from 3-0 to 0-7.

Que sera, sera.

I don't blame Man U for fielding a youth squad: perhaps they'll be trying to impress the boss?

Fingers crossed.

There was another interesting point mentioned in the match preview, regarding Hull's form:-

5. Already been beaten home and away by Aston Villa, Wigan and Sunderland; Manchester United could also do the double over them.

Not that I'm suggesting Phil Brown would throw the match to save his home club but it's definitely putting a red (and white) flag on the matter.

Even I'm not that paranoid.

Anyway, if the Toon don't get a result, it's all academic. They can't afford to be looking at the other matches.

That is the silver lining. I just hope they don't assume they will bounce straight back up again. Championship football is different, and you need a different style and different players to make it work.

LOL

If that's sarcasm, it's misplaced. No sense of entitlement at all, just loyalty to the local team and an appreciation of attractive football and of blood, sweat and (appropriately enough) tears.

Greenhill May 24th 2009 10:41 am

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread

Not really sarcasm, but after spending a few years in the region I did see evidence of this entitlement thing, however I meant it more in a relative way to the neighbours, rather than an absolute generalisation.

Sunderland fans often came across as humble and passionate, they also lived up to the criteria of "loyalty to the local team and an appreciation of attractive football and of blood, sweat and (appropriately enough) tears" and struck me as a hopeful bunch. Newcastle fans would often be of the opinion that they had a first class 1st division team, they regarded Sunderland (fans, team) as a bunch of subhumans.

Middlesbrough would never be talked about. Apart from when either set of fans would joke about the monkey-hanging (which I think was a misplaced reference to Hartlepool but I always trusted my judgement not to argue about it).
