Now, me telling the kids I was wearing my wifes underwear after they hid all mine this morning, that at least had some plausibility;) |

Arsenal and United in Europa next season with Everton in CL? I wonder what the odds would have been of that before the season start..

Re: The Toon Army / EPL thread
I watched the Emirates @ Changs go down 2-0 early and quit watching 30 min in. 3 nil final and it reminded me of the Riders in the bad times. Maybe if that Mobuku or whatever his name is had got kicked in the head instead of Osmon at about the 10 minute mark it would of made a difference. Good game if you're an Everton fan I suppose. I think they'll still nick that spot though sadly. I'm delighted that Spurs are completely out of Europe. It is wrong that that 6th spot is a more appetising finish than 5th. |

Not good for the coefficients. |

It would indeed be amusing to see that happen. On the other hand, as someone who likes to see the English teams doing well in the Champions League (previously who I wanted to win things was based on who was best equipped for the old European Cups) I can't help but feel Arsenal is virtually a guarantee of reaching the first knock-out stage while Everton would have to survive a tough play off against someone like Celtic or Napoli before being unseeded in the groups and drawing Real Madrid, Porto and Juventus.

Not good for the coefficients. As an example I'd have been far happier if Bayern had won the CL ahead of Chelsea and Spurs had qualified for the CL several years ago. Co-efficients etc have ruined the game. Europe was better when we didn't have boring seeded groups designed to keep certain teams in it. It should be knock out with an unseeded draw. The cash would certainly mean more to Everton than Arsenal if they were to make the group stage. And it may actually be a good thing for Arsenal as it may change the board's approach to running the club- then it again it could be the beginning of a demise. I still think Arsenal will win their 4 remaining games and I'm fairly certain Everton have to play City so I think Arsenal with finish 4th. |

It's the most exciting run in for some years. I can say that as a neutral. League too close to call and 4th spot still open. |

Although I'm quietly hoping we may catch Arsenal. Our last 6 games were always winnable it's just a shame we lost to Norwich and Arsenal at home in recent weeks. None the less 5 points behind Arsenal with 5 games. Something to hold my interest. |

Liverpool have won the league.
Be interested to see if Hodgson uses Gerrard, Henderson, Sterling and Sturridge for the nucleus of his World Cup team. I would. Mind you I'd probably find space for Harry Kane too :-) |

Now I know there are quite a few ABUs but I came across this 35 minute programme about Punk Football and in particular on FC United of Manchester.
I encourage you to view it as I found it interesting from a common fan view https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HrR5e9NtV68 |

A salary cap would be a good idea. Stopping foreign (non-EU) ownership would be another good one too."..I think they want all the pubs shut down, I think they want everyone sat at home watching a thousand channels of shite and voting for it on your mobile phone, taking money out of you while your sat in your favourite armchair.." |

Man Utd or Darlington it didn't matter you could afford to go and also attend several away trips. I started going in the late 60s as a kid with my dad or on my own. I stopped going in the mid to late 80s as I moved to Canada. Sure compared to now some of the smaller grounds would now be considered shitholes but in those days it didn't matter. At half time you could still afford to buy a Bovril and a pie. Corporate boxes didn't exist and sponsorship was minimal if non existent. Teams had 2 x shirts and didn't find a need to change them every year and decide to go with Nike or Adidas. No agents demanding multi thousand pound salaries a week and players would take a bus to the ground not showing up in Bentleys and Ferraris. Turn up on the day and pay your way in unless you were rich and could afford season tickets. Given a choice today Old Trafford or Gigg Lane (FC Uniteds shared ground) Im thinking Gigg Lane would win out. Watching Rooney yesterday on 200 grand a WEEK was a disgrace to all fans of any team. |

Wasnt his toe crocked a week or two ago? He played with painkilling injections against Bayern. Its not really a surprise he wasnt up for it with nothing to play for this year. Much as I agree with the sentiments about money in the game, that is not the players fault. And the game on view now is a million miles from what it was in the 60s and 70s. I suspect that many chairmen through the league make a net loss from their involvement too. Financially secure well run clubs are few and far between, and when the ratings drop and TV gets bored of footy and the money dries up there is going to be an awful reckoning. |

Cant really argue with that. Football is no longer a sport its a business model. Gone are the days where the average working class man could afford to take his kid(s) to a football game be it at Old Trafford or any of the other 91 grounds when there were 4 divisions.
