Ahead of the Black Cats clash with fierce North-East rivals Newcastle on Saturday, the club have sent a letter to Mackem fans.
Chief executive Margaret Byrne asked supporters travelling to Newcastle's St James' Park to use official club transport.
But, in a bizarre announcement, she also warned fans "about the dangers of flares and polytechnics"!

I wonder what her views on Universities are?

I blame Maggie.

And in breaking news at the transfer deadline, Toon's cockney Director of *****all does, err, ****all.

Yes. Very surprising given Jermaine Defoe's departure.

I think when we appoint a new manager in the summer there will be several signings made. Left back and upfront. I suspect Holtby, Capoue and Chadli will be gone by then.

We are stuck with Soldado.

On a happier note the Toon have got a non-french person on loan. A certain Luuk de Jong, who may just possibly be nicknamed Lucky Luuk soon, and definitely sounds Dutch, joins fellow internationals Tim Krul & Vurnon Anita in paradise.

But don't panic, Clément Grenier, who sounds distinctly New Geordie is next, one is told.

Not after Yesterday. He's tainted with Kinnearitis and has been written off by many. Pas de deux should never have shoved him on as he's obviously not fit (hasn't started a game this season).

Apart form that, getting up at 5AM was sooooo worth it.

I'm not sure what first part of your post is about although a bit of French is always nice.

Getting up at 5am just to discover that your team hadn't improved over the fascist's rabble from last year, who won by the same score, must be particularly painful.

See you in hell. Or possibly the championship. But after you, if you please.

Possibly, but its better than getting up at 7 AM to watch a team roll over & die in the only game of note left to them this season.

Yeah a lot more games now. Last weekend I counted 5 3pm kick off's. 3 on Sportsnet (including World) and 2 on the TSN channels.

I thought I was spoiled when I had 3 to choose from.

No, no, I meant it in a bad way. It's not an extra 3.00 choice. This is a game that would normally be on either TSN or the usual Sportsnet channels rather than "360" which likely needs additional subscription.

It's like when Sky introduced skysports 2 and spread games over both channels so you had to pay for both to see what was previously all on one.:frown:

sportsnet 360 is just a re-branded 'the score' which I thought was on most cable systems in the standard tier.

The fact is that Sportsnet World is no longer the channel it used to be. Previously it would have at least half the games either live or delayed one after the other...now it ends up showing the scraps most of the time. In the past it also showed the scottish, russian, french leagues and the last two are gone. When sportsnet world was first available, many of my friends subscribed and now most of them have dropped it.

The fact of the matter is that for many soccer in canada is a minority interest sport that is overshadowed by hawkie, the superbore, rounders and basketball. In reality, for the money most of us pay for soccer, we get more games than they do in the UK.

Maybe. On my provider it comes within a sports grouping of what I already have as part of a bilingual package.

It seems the only way of adding it is to pay for the group which is effectively paying for several channels twice.

Except for times like this week when West Brom-Liverpool and Arsenal-Palace were both on World only. It does happen quite a lot that both Sunday games are on World only or one on each.

Then of course, there's the FA Cup which is only on World at the moment.

How could I forget that. Actually, lawn bowling/petanque/boules on ice gets better ratings than football/soccer here in Canada.

It may be a sign of things already here rather than to come.

I just noticed that this Saturday, Sportsnet 360 not only has the Liverpool-Arsenal match, but Chelsea-Newcastle as the "3.00" game and then Swansea-Cardiff, while the only other Sportsnet live game is on World.

Nothing on SN One or the Zoned channels. The schedules aren't far enough ahead to see what happens after this weekend.

this is a good accurate source for what is on. I imagine that the Winter Olympics may be on sportsnet in some forum....tsn as well. TSN2 and tsn.ca also have games. All is not lost.

Im conflicted.... got 2 arsenal defenders in my fantasy team...

Its been a while since they played anyone with some talent up front so Im not completely pessimistic about it. Usually that means a crushing defeat awaits..

I've used that one for years. Unfortunately it's not as complete or up to date as it used to be. They didn't have the league cup semi finals listed a few weeks ago. I've often had to double check the Sportsnet site as a back up and even refer to livesoccer as well.

I've been on to Shaw and I'm happy with the outcome. There are a couple of channels the others in the house got used to on a free trial that they have missed since. For an extra $3 I can upgrade the package to include 360 as well as those channels they missed and a movie channel that looks okay too.

Thing is, though, we all know the CL doesn't get won back to back. So if Man City is a real possibility (and I think they are) that means they knock out Barcelona. If Arsenal were to repeat what they did against Bayern (just as Man City disposed of them too - okay, there's a slight argument it didn't matter) then Barca and Bayern - the two biggest obstacles would be out and the trophy could be anyone's to win. Especially if the best teams left faced each other in the draw.

It's all set up for an "undeserved" win. Like ManU.

It is quite likely. Just as when teams draw opponents with former players or managers. The odds are against it but it happens.
