Two news stories in the last 24 hours:
Over 100 dead from bombings and a couple of hundred with injuries - things like lost limbs - in a 'safe' part of Turkey a long way from the border and much closer to Istanbul. Dozens dead in cross border bombing attacks targeting refugees who fled to the 'safe' country next door. So...not so wise to hang around once the border is crossed after all. |

The Turkish bombing appears to be domestic politics (Kurds targeted by paramilitary).
Together with targeted attacks on Refugees who have settled in the the so called safe country next door it shows there are good reasons to not stop in the "safe" country next door other than the usual they're not really refugees they are economic migrants stuff. :) |

Well-that's Turkey off the ever growing list of places to visit.

Re: Syrian refugee crisis.
My Brother in law has just left for a 3 week holiday to Turkey. He didn't seem worried at all.
ErdoÄŸan seems determined to get virtually unlimited presidential powers even if it means destabilising Turkey by starting a civil war with 10m Kurds to get those powers. ErdoÄŸan imo is a classic example of power corrupting an individual. |

There have apparently been further ISIS arrests in Turkey confirming what I've mentioned a few times about an ISIS presence in that country and how, when you are fleeing ISIS Turkey is not necessarily the best place to stop. |
Re: Syrian refugee crisis.
There is a very complicated relationship between the current Turkish government and ISIS. It's certainly possible that the recent bombings were carried out by ISIS at the request and with the support of the Turkish government.

Interesting piece. I did not realise that Spiegel now has an English edition. Great magazine with no equivalent in UK or US.On the refugee/migrant issue I think Germany might be able to handle the crisis. Maybe my Germanophilia is showing through.

Re: Syrian refugee crisis.
Yes interesting piece. Sounds exciting in Deutscheland. Inevitably dealing with an influx of 600,000 souls (refugee and otherwise) will present challenges, but if any country is capable of organising and adapting it is Germany. I don't know how to say Well Done in German, but Well Done Frau Merkel!
