Many are already coming from Turkey. They've been there 3-4 years in your adequate camps and can't handle it any longer. Doctors, engineers, teachers, men, women and children. These are not impoverished refugees and, much like you or I, they know that there is more to life than a dry bed and a bowl of soup.

Thousands showing up a continent of 500 million people is a different order of magnitude than 1000's showing up to a hotel. People don't seem to have an appreciation of numbers on this topic. Britain welcomed 800,000 Eastern Europeans a decade ago, genuine and legitimate economic migrants. And now we are squabbling over a few thousand destitute people in Northern France and the supposed threat of tens of thousands of Syrians. As Angel Merkel said, we can rise to the challenge, and we should be proud that they want to come to our country.

It's nothing to do with how many people live there already, it's to do with how many destitute people can these countries accommodate all at once, housing does not spring up over night, funds are not readily available, this stuff takes time to set up.

Most of those EE's came with the means to support themselves, & it wasn't so much that they were welcomed it was more like we don't have choice.

To me they are symbolic in 'Toronto' of Canada's ability to bring in Immigrants but not have suitable employment available for their skills
(often due to language, unrecognized qualifications or simple protectionism)

When someone flees a war and seeks shelter in a neighbouring country they are refugees. However when they become fed up of the living conditions in the Turkish camps (as I would be) and then they travel through several safe countries to get to Germany they are now economic migrants whatever they may have been in Turkey. Its easy to say countries like the UK can absorb may more migrants, but the UK can't even build enough houses for its current population and has been unable to build enough houses for decades.

Unemployment and underemployment is already a huge problem in virtually all the western world.

Because a lot of them are shite drivers and I know Canadians in general are not the best drivers.
Judge for yourselves if the taxi companies in major cities and especially those cab firms who have contracts at the major airports have something in common.
Yes you can call me somewhat racist but those are observations and there have been quite a few articles in some drivers of certain races being discriminated against being hired.
With the invention of GPS most cab drivers get you eventually to where you want to go but not always by the fastest and cheapest routes. I can't forget how many times I have told cab drivers WTF why are you going this way.
I wonder how many of them would pass the Black cab knowledge test in the UK?
I have nothing against cab drivers in general just as long as they drive me from A to B in a safe manner and without being obvious at trying to rip me off;)

But a taxi driver is a paying job offering a service that people require.

Complaining that someone is coming over and getting a job is obscure.

Damn immigrant is trying to support himself now by making an honest living.......It's a no win situation.

The latest consensus is those trying to enter Europe illegally are relatively well off and are not the ones who are struggling to feed themselves. The poorest are those that remain in the camps who don't have money to pay the smugglers.
