Someone drove this little thunder-bucket to a wedding at the Hungarian club last week, and I was reminded of the first time I rode in one; thought I was flying.

That picture took me back.. many years ago when I was young and foolish, I drove my (then) boyfriends pride and joy Spitfire on the dirt roads in The New Forest (we were conservation corp members, saving adders, clearing scrub and helping to put out fires lol), ending with a rather splendid fast turn in a cleared area.. narrowly missing careening over the edge and coming to a stop with the rear wheels hanging precariously in mid air.

Such fun! Needless to say he wasn't too keen on me driving it back after.. but as it was only the 2nd time I'd actually driven a car, he did forgive me!

One of the better things about DBT is that its about the only place where the other people can really understand.

They are German speaking. My wife can understand and read German and speak it fairly well. Growing up her parents spoke German in the house.

Wife can speak Portuguese as well from the year she lived in Brazil in high school. Exchange program.

Wonderful place to live. If you're Swiss. Very expensive and difficult place to live if you're not.

I have no desire to live there.....I have heard the costs there are quite high.

People in BC like to cry how high our electricity is.

Fact is BC has some of the lowest rates in North America.

Our bill with tax is about $40

Same use in San Diego before tax and its $110.

One thing BC does not have is high electric rates.

Yes indeed. Electric costs are one thing that keeps me iffy on Ontario, with colder winters and such, concerns me we would have problems paying electric bill there.

We are lucky in 2 regards here, BC Hydro has low rates, and there is not excessive fees/taxes added to the bill, there are some, but they are low.

On Reddit for San Diego people keep posting about having electric bills in the hundreds, upwards of 800 for some for 1 month, but the rates there are 27 cents to 55 cents per kWh, depending on total usage and tier level, its insane....One poster has a 1 bed apartment and they were saying they had a 300-400 bill, insanity, if we had bills like that, we would not have electricity....lol

Understood but in rental units in apartment blocks / duplex's etc., lights and heating are normally included (and for cooking) - and there are laws in place about the minimum temperature they must sustain in winter. You only pay for electricity for anything you plug in, basically. House rental is a different matter, that's when it can get scarily expensive - especially if you have air conditioning. Heating is generally gas powered in house rentals, so keeping warm in winter isn't an expensive matter.. keeping cool in summer can be!

Also commonly used in Maine in the US and on many of the Brit shows I watch on Acorn and BritBox. My Canuck of 77 years never uses "eh".

We have always had electric heat in our apartments so we get to pay for it as electric is rarely included in rent. In older apartment units heat is sometimes included depending on the source of the heat, some older apartment complexes use I think a boiler type system that heats the whole building vs electric baseboard in newer apartments where each unit is independent of of one another and tenant has complete control over the heat.

Water including hot water is included in our current unit, the building uses a central boiler for hot water, but some apartments will have electric hot water tanks in each unit and tenant pays for it, just depends on the building.

We have natural gas for the stove top, its not metered by individual unit just the building as a whole, so strata covers the cost of natural gas, this is the first time ever having natural gas in an apartment for me, vast majority are electric cook top.

Summer isn't so bad with our portable a/c negligible increase really, its heat in winter that can add a nice premium to the bill. Electric baseboard heating is norm here for apartments and its not exactly cost efficient and you end up with a whole wall area you cannot place any furniture against which is annoying.

I often wonder what it would be like not to be tired all the time.

Even as a kid I was always tired.

I think DBT would be more effective when counseling is included in the mix to actually help worth through the problems causing the issues at hand people may have. Skills group alone is better then nothing, just not sure it alone will work to the full potential since the problems that cause the issues are still not worked on or resolved.

In the various groups I am in those who seem to be doing the best are also the ones who have long term counseling sessions to work through issues bothering them.

Can the same not be said of alternatives?
The upstairs rooms here have baseboards - don't know if that is original or supplemental - but they're all on the window walls where one would be less likely to have furniture anyway.

The vents for the heating/ac (up and down) are all next to walls...granted not the same length as a baseboard heater but still 'in the way' nevertheless.

It was the same at my old duplex with the vents from the previous oil system, except one in the kitchen was right in the middle of the floor. which could be problematic for dining chairs/table.
