Janitor seems to vary quite a lot, anywhere from min wage to 50k a year, depending on who is employing you, government's tend to pay more, but difficult to get. I do check on Vancouver School board job site, and other government job sites, and do apply for some of the jobs, I have not gotten interviews but I do apply. School board currently only has skilled jobs, but if anyone is a teacher they seem to be hiring at the moment, I hear there is a shortage of teachers, wage is too low to live in Vancouver comfortably.
I did apply to rail road jobs as they seem to pay well, never do well on the assessment test though, so never get to an interview stage. A lot of mechanical reasoning stuff so apparently I don't have good mechanical reasoning...lol.
Thought since I like trains that it might be an interesting job, and pay seems decent. Have had a few co-workers who have left my company to go work for the rail road.
Just trying to obtain something that is more transferable skill wise so we can try and move somewhere lower housing cost and maybe buy someday, even if made 50k a year that is not enough to make Vancouver work but would be not a bad wage in some other areas of BC.
I would go to the US for school and take the aquarium science degree offered in Oregon, would love to work at an aquarium. The requirements some I can meet but others I can't specifically having a high GPA and having 2 academic references, they don't have an adult entry stream, and when I talked to them 3 years ago, average GPA on acceptance was 3.7
My high school GPA was 2.1 or 2.2 and well it was 21 years ago so its not acceptable anyhow, I would need a few years of college under my belt, I really don't think I could get a high GPA, I am a C student, solid C student, got a spattering of A's in BS classes but any serious class, C's and difficult classes like math, never passed, I never passed a math class from grade 7 to 12.
I wish I knew why my brain can't remember material well, and why I don't do well in school, sure wasn't from a lack of trying, not sure I could have tried any harder.

I'll take a look at the peace river, see what rental housing is like, it pays 2/hr more then my current job, and if housing is affordable/rentals available, it might be worth trying out for.

I'd rather be the Duchess of Sussex than successful at duck sex.

I realise it's probably not attainable right now, but perhaps look out for one of these - maybe 2nd hand? (Costco seem to have quite a few different brands)

I thought they were simply an alternative to the window version because you didn't have the 'right' sort of window.

Another thought would be for JS to get a dehumidifier - they can really make a difference, provided the doors and windows are shut..

Yes, but you can put the hose out of the window (or both, if it's a double hose one.. though those aren't as efficient, I've found. Single hose ones suck the room air into the machine and pump the hot air to the outside) ... -the hoses are about 2-4" around, easily boxed in with the window kit supplied (or some cardboard and tape), and suitable for any type of window as long as it can open!

But my windows are sort of square with a turning handle that opens half, door-like and a mozzie screen on the inside part of the window.
Not sure how the screen part would work with a hose.
I mean, I could imagine cutting an appropriate hole but I don't think it would be good for the screen especially when you weren't using the hose.

We have aircon/heatpump, but sometimes my bedroom gets a bit warm despite that. A fan would do but a bit noisy and I imagine these portable things are quieter.

The one my son uses goes up to the screen (the screens are on the outside of the 1950's casement windows) and he has created a seal around it (filling the rest of the window opening) against the screen. That may be more awkward if your screen is on the inside as you won't be able to block it off and the hot air will be coming back in through the gap.
Could you have the cooling unit in your bedroom and extend the venting hose to another window somewhere? They are available (google search)

This is the kind of window we have

Where portable a/c units are designed for windows like this, which when you have a window like this, its super simple to install, everything needed is included with the a/c unit.

For the 650k these condos sell for, I would expect a/c, its amazing the prices people pay for such a basic condo.
