Went to Kelowna today, spent half hour there, then back home. Nice drive though, so much nice snow on the mountains, mostly clear skies, and some chilly temps on the mountain highway....
No snow luckily on the highways so an easy drive. |

Huh??? That wasn't available in the Fraser valley or Vanvegas? Wanted to get back home before dark which is why we left right away. The test/sample drop off is available at 2 locations in the LM (Surrey and North Vancouver), but life labs doesn't do this test walk in and requires appointments the earliest they could offer was mid January. Lab in Kelowna allowed drop off on a walk in basis. It's my fault, and lesson learned, call the lab right away when a doctor gives you a requisition, some tests have limited appointments and month long waits. Don't wait until 2 weeks before your doctors appointment. |

  I'll add our windshield well, it's got to be replaced now. Rock kicked up by a truck (pick up not semi) hit the window, all was okay at first, then temp got colder, and now nice long crack end to end almost. |

Looks like another trip to Kelowna coming up.

I've seen doctors sell eggs and things in their office, but never this.

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
I've been meaning to mention...for anyone who likes mince pies and doesn't want to make their own or spend a fortune ordering 'British' ones or spend a fortune on those dainty little overpriced ones that Sobeys have sold in the past - not seen them this year yet - try your nearest HomeSense store.
They often have surprising food choices in there and the one my stepdaughter works in has packs of Walker's mince pies (6). $6.99 I believe, which seems okay compared to alternative pricing and delivery costs. |

Mother in law missed the last step in the basement today and tumbled. I got her up and over to ER as her ankle looked 'dented' and she was x-rayed within half an hour of arriving.
Doc said she broke everything in her ankle that she could break. In surgery right now. She's fit as a fiddle normally (78!) and they're suggesting if all goes well, a bit of physio tomorrow and home. That might be a bit optimistic. |

That's a bummer when you needed her to clear the snow off the driveway- how inconsiderate of her  |

She doesn't get on with crutches, a walker/rollator will be more likely. Fortunately we already have one.

At London Drugs today and a guy was flipping out about dispensing fees.
Lady at the desk looked like she was on the verge of tears over his scream fest. As we were leaving he was at the front of the store yelling at another employee. Oh how some people treat others so poorly. |

Oh how some people treat others so poorly. My stepdaughter complains about how some customers treat her. Early in 2015 she went to get a customer something from the stockroom - at this point he appeared appreciative. As she was passing it to him he withdrew his hand as she released it and it fell on the floor. He said something a long the lines of "A monkey could do your job...your mother must be so proud..." This was two weeks after her mum died. |

I had a really bad cold and while at school a teacher said to me "Does your Mother know you are too ill to be here?" to which I replied "That would be a little difficult seeing as how she has been dead 4 years - and my step-mother a year". Damn stupid people... they need to think before they open their insensitive gobs! |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
So visiting MIL at the hospital this morning, her room mate is a slip of a thing who pops out for an occasional smoke.
Given the -15 (feels like -25) temperature I lent her my gloves. Apparently she's been there a month and what may have been her dad was there when we arrived and the cards suggest she's not forgotten. But it's been pretty cold for at least couple of weeks and very cold the last few days. Nobody thought to take her some gloves? I just popped home for lunch and I'm taking a spare pair back. |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Best wishes to BristolUK's MIL (ouch :( ), & kudos for taking care of her roommate.

You are such a thoughtful person...
The hospital used to have a smoking area just outside the door and along about 20 yards, seats, sand/ash buckets and a wind breaking fence. Now the smokers have to cross the road, and all the way through the parking lot to the other side. All with an IV pole if they're connected. |

Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
MIL still in hospital - bit groggy Sunday but better today, Monday. Can't see them kicking her out for a couple of days yet.
Given all that we endured late 2014 and then April 2015 right up to that phone call from the hospital, it's not been fun but of course we have to go. And then at 10.00 pm the phone rings. I know it can't be anything like that call, but stepdaughter goes into stress mode. I hear "Congratulations.....Air Canada....." and put the phone down and calm her. I don't believe for a minute it really was Air Canada but whoever it was wants stringing up. We're on the do not call list and I've reported it but of course I can't provide anything useful. :frown: |
Re: Random stuff - the anything else thread
Some thoughts
Why do some people and all the media say Happy Holidays? Should it not be Merry Holidays, or even dare I say it, Merry Christmas. In fact, what if people are working over Christmas is that not rubbing it in their faces, ha ha I am on a happy holiday and u have to work. Maybe teachers could say happy holidays to all their neighbors and friends in summer see how well that goes down. |
