Victoria housing and health advocates say this isn’t an isolated case and that many other vulnerable people living in shelters or on the streets are not getting the care they need because of their poor living conditions.

Hopefully they'll find a place for him. If there are enough people in his situation a dedicated apartment building would seem sensible but there would have to be potential for patients to live there for a couple of years in some cases. A friend of mine beat non-hodgkins by basically staying in his apartment for almost that long (outside of doctor appointments and treatment) and having food brought to him. You can't go out in the crowd with 0 immunity.

Great. The building intercom system isn't working, I have a perishable package arriving tomorrow, and UPS wont be able to deliver said package because their drivers apparently do not carry phones and cannot call (according to UPS customer service.) and without the intercom the driver will have no way to contact us upstairs and wont be able to even access the building.

Unless someone happens to be downstairs and lets the driver into the building and fobs them to the floor, but then the person would need to live on our floor since the fobs only permit access to the floor you live on.

May have to skip DBT and sit in the lobby all day, original plan was for MIL to wait in apartment for delivery, but the intercom system will be down until Monday or Tuesday.

We are not in a large building with a strata with the money to have a concierge or front desk type lobby..

Being Friday, if not delivered tomorrow wont be able to pick up until Monday and that would be too late.

One of many many reasons I hate apartment living.

Hard to sell used aquarium supplies locally, the local groups have little traffic these days.

The only thing I can think of if it isn't fixed is to leave a note taped above the intercom asking the UPS guy to radio headquarters from the truck and get them to phone you. Long shot. Or try to call their dispatch centre in the morning and explain that it's perishable.

I am going to call UPS again in the morning, once the parcel is actually here they will hopefully be a little more helpful, I will also leave a note and hope the driver sees it. Delivery services are not exactly reliable around these parts for residential, Canada Post and Purolator wont even attempt a delivery, they just leave a note for pick up, Canada Post isn't so bad its only 5 min away, but Purolator is a 20-30 min drive away and so annoying when they require a pick up. UPS and Fedex usually attempt delivery.

UPS isnt all that helpful.

What I have learned:

1) Their drivers do not carry phones apparently.

2) Until its in Vancouver there is nothing they can do.

3) Once in Vancouver if I call before it leaves the depot they might be able to hold but truck may leave as early as 5am.

4) Delivery sometime between 10am and 3pm. It has a guranteed delivery of 3pm but drivers need to do their 930 and 1030 guaranteed express first so most likely between 1030a and 3p.

Talked to 3 different UPS CSR on phone and all recite the same lines.

So Ill likely have to skip DBT as wife has a trial shift 9 to 3 so wont be home.

Ill sit in lobby from 1030 to 3 and hope for the best.

Technology is grand but when it breaks it makes things difficult.

The transatlantic golf showdown is the third most-watched sporting event in the world after the Olympics and the football World Cup.
I never knew that. That's impressive.

In May 2016, I had a thread about freezer space and Siouxie helpfully suggested these.https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...f9be1b0417.jpg

I bought some immediately. We haven't used them yet :o

Stepdaughter and MIL are just going through the freezers.

Only dead fish, live fish don't well they shouldn't if their tank is being cared for.

I got my California ballot by email a few days ago. 13 pages. There is so much to research.

6 years doesn't seem like a lot of time, but looking at photos from Dec 2012 to photos taken this summer, I went from no gray hair to a lot of gray hair, my hair had color still in 2012....lol

Hi Bats.
I've seen a few of your posts do this odd scrambling now. I am not sure what is causing this. I've only seen it with one other poster.

Only happens when I am using the cell phone though. Andriod LG something or other.

Doesnt seem to happen when using a PC.

Drizzle here. Cool. I turned the car air conditioning off. Supposed to be warmish on the weekend, 24-25.

The last time I saw snow like that was in Toronto in the winter of 1966/67. In the December I was invited to make a temporary move to the firm's office in Nassau, Bahamas - just for a couple of weeks to help them out. Since then, the closest I've got to a snowy winter is the TV screen. Do you people really like the cold? I mean, really?

I work with a woman who claims to like the winter. I've only worked with her since the spring so I'll be interested in her view when she's got the flu and we're push starting her car.

i like the winter/cold when i'm inside and viewing it from the comfort of my condo. I love watching the weather come in across the lake. I love watching the snow flakes swirling around the building. I love using it as an excuse not to go outside, to drink copious amounts of hot chocolate with baileys. I love curling up on the couch with a blanket.

I hate having to go outside in it

I like the cooler temps of winter, easier to stay warm than to stay cool. I just don't like the rain of winter, rain is the only downside to winter, rain rain rain.

All this talk of snowy winters... It can be a conversation-stopper at times. It's a joy to watch Americans' faces when I tell them about having to put our rubbers on before going outside... ("You what, John?!")

Amazon in the US including Whole Foods is going to raise the companies min. wage to 15/US$ per hour. Average hourly US wage is 22 and some change.

Target pledges to have its employees at 15/hr by 2020.

Wal-Mart recently raised to 11/hr but hasn't pledged a higher wage.

Amazon will lobby congress to raise the federal min. wage.
