I hate it when they can't understand my accent and I have to repeat myself or they mistake what I've said and think I'm being rude. I dunno if that's my fault or theirs for being so bloody sensitive about everything. I can't change my way of talking in 6 months to accommodate stroppy old women!
Sounds a bit like you're the stroppy one ! Maybe it's you and your accent that cause the problem !

No no, you've mistaken what I've said. It definitely IS the accent.

I actually didn't mean it to sound so harsh, I'm fine with repeating myself because I do have quite a thick Scottish accent so fair enough but it does get a little irritating when it happens 20 odd times a day at work.

I know it's my fault but this is the negative thread, let me have a whinge! I'm a woman after all.

Of those misheard things that have happened in my life, in the better hole pub and restaurant in Fanling Hong Kong. Me, wifey, brother and Sis n Law, order food in a packed pub to a chinese lady and I say "Thank you very much" She comes back and looks me in the eye and says " Didyou say you want to F'@@K me very much!" I go pale, wife turns purple, SIL goes red and my brother falls on the floor laughing so much we were thrown out. Great! fletch

Bahaha that was actually inspired by my neighbour squawking at her kids when I have a ragin' hangover

I'm trying, I honestly am! My colleagues are teaching me how to say my O's properly.

We use a mixture of vinegar and water to clean things at work, I asked my colleague to pass me it one day and my boss thought I said "can you pass me the N word and water please?". Oh man...thought he was gonna choke on his coffee!

Right...off back to the kitchen I go!

p.s. Nothing worse than someone whinging about other people whinging

I sympathise a little...first day of work I was told that I needed to "Americanize" my accent for the customers.

Needless to say I wasn't about to do that (couldn't even if I had wanted to!) It makes my toes curl when you hear people actually TRYING to sound American/Canadian and ending up sounding like a total tool.

I'm not going to stand in front of the mirror practising how to sound Canadian, I'd rather repeat myself a few times!

You don't need to do any of that. Just slowing down a little is usually all it takes.

The TTC and Canada Post.

Both form a combination of over-priced and shit and it is only when I have to deal with them that I really do miss home.

I came across a Canadian at a market faking a British accent. It was awful, I couldn't bring myself to buy anything from her in case it led to having to endure a whole conversation.

reminds me of when I was in a market in Tunisia, and the Tunisian guy on the stall trying to fake a Brit accent then slapping his behind screaming "That's Asda price"

Lol! But that's bizarre, why on earth would a Canadian be faking a British accent?
