Re: Lunchtime Choices

I caught an eel in a nearby river a few years back. What a tough fight he put up! I remember landing him and he just gave me an evil eye. Hated me he did. So I unhooked him and let him go.

I suppose, in hindsight, I should have eaten him. There was a YouTube video showing how to skin them by putting a nail through the head and pinning it to a cutting board.

Not sure I could cope with the evil eye imagery though

I went to the Eagles Club today and had turkey noodle soup, a Greek pork wrap with chips and gravy, a schooner of draft and a bottle of Pil. Meets all the high points in Canada's Food Guide.

As I've had a somewhat unexpected day off, I made a hot jacket potato with cream cheese and home hot-smoked salmon.

Not the bad kind of "unexpected day off"; the kind that begins with a row with the boss and just keeps going.

Hope it was a NICE unexpected day off.:)

Lunch for me - nothing, but don't tell the OH:unsure:
He hates it when I don't eat, but I got asked to work in another school in the afternoon, so I was travelling at at lunchtime and didn't have time for anything.
Happens a lot, that.

19th Wedding Anniversary tonight, so having something nice to eat:starsmile:
, which is good because my stomach thinks my throat is cut.

No, not bad, just a bunch of wankers being wankers that's given me some time off. I may well be getting a few more days off this week as well. :) If so, I'm off down the boozer for lunch tomorrow as the weather is a bit too wet for fishing. You should eat some lunch though, how else are you going ward off all those creepy crawlers that those smelly little buggers bring to school?

You have it sussed.
I have four-weeks-in-itis right now and feel rubbish. Kids bring all their germs and dump them on you - it is like biological warfare.

Well, I will try to have something to say here tomorrow, but it won't be about a pub lunch, more's the pity. :(

Gordon Ramsey can stick his michelin stars up his jacksy. None of that fancy food compares to finding an unopened box of mini sausages rolls in the back of the freezer when all you thought was in there was "healthy options". The preheating has commenced.

That sounds good, but would be great as a side dish for kebabs!
There was food left over from a band rider so I see some ham and cheese sandwiches in my immediate future.

Tandoori chicken, saffron rice, garlic nan, Peshwari Naan, and a mixed platter of vegetable samosas, vegetable pakoras & chicken pakoras, and a couple of Indian beers. The big question is, does one stay at work or bugger off and make a day of it.

If I had that at lunchtime I'd be asleep all afternoon. Then I'd wake up grumpy and that'd be my Friday night ruined too.

A lovely piece of shepherd's pie, very comforting on a cold day. :thumb up: Oh and it helps to say it in an ethnic accent like people from the west country or up north.

Today I had a leftover-roast-pork-and-apple-sauce sandwich.

Yesterday I had a roast leg of pork with actual crackling and everything. Ordered specially from the butcher, it's hard to get a decent joint of pork with the skin still on. With roast potatoes and carrots and green beans.

Proper delicious, it was. And the house smelt lovely all day, too :)

There are some right concoctions out there. The best thing is to go to an Asian supermarket and by the dry packs, there are so many flavours and they are very inexpensive. They generally say boil for three mins, but if you put them in a bowl, pour boiling water on top and leave for five minutes they will come out just as well. They are instant after all.

I rather like the Korean Shin Ramyun on a cold night, especially if you put some prawns and spring onions in.

Yes, adding some protein and veg is the way to go. The spicy Korean noodles are definitely a nice winter warmer.

Leftover caldo de pollo and rice. You wouldn't think it possible, but it was even more delicious than it was on Sunday.
