Went home for lunch and had my friend over. I made a ham and shrimp salad with tomatoe, red onion, coriander, leaf lettuce and shredded mozza then toasted up a couple of tortillas and made wraps out of it with (I used) salsa and Frank's Red Hot.

A very fragrant chickpea curry, basmati rice, a pice of naan and large slice of birthday cake for my pudding that I lifted from a party of a six year old on Sunday afternoon. Too much sugar is not good for them anyway.

I take it you're in NS and not Arizona then! A constant delight the lobster here, I try to limit myself to every other Saturday so I don't ever take them as a norm, yum yum.

I had a Western Wrap...a man at work was going out and brought it back for me from a whole food cafe, I didn't know what was in it when I looked at it, and was even less sure once I'd eaten it. I was completely unable to work out any of the constituent parts::confused:

I stand corrected. I had #36 Beef Sate w/vermicelli then for supper made huevos ranchero with sausage and refried beans con queso.

That sounds very worrying and not at all attractive:blink:.

I had a home-roasted chicken and avocado salad, along with a toasted onion and poppy seed skinny bagel thing, which was lovely.

Unfortunately not, but sometimes I'll try.:D
Long version: I liked most Mexican food when I was there but a lot of it was totally unfamiliar. Refrigeration was scarce. In Oaxaca there was a place halfway down the hill to town from the city wall that had a sign with a picture of a roast chicken on it, and they sold whole or half chickens with potatoes and tortillas and I used to go once in awhile just because it was something I recognized. At the bottom of the hill a lady who had a fish stall in the Saturday market sold shrimp cocktails in a little tienda, and that's where I first ate raw oysters. Though landlocked, Oaxaca is close to both Atlantic and Pacific oceans and on Saturday morning the pescadorias in the market were incredible because refrigerated trucks had been rolling in overnight from both oceans. One of my strongest memories is the haze over the city just after dawn from thousands of charcoal fires and the smell of the charcoal and the day's tortillas being cooked on convex steel discs.

Yes, back in NS.
I bought a few lobsters the other day for $6.50 a pound from a fisherman who regularly peddles seafood from the back of a pickup here in town. He always has good quality fresh stuff that's generally landed the night before. The lobsters are live so you have to cook them but that's not a problem.
My wife grew up in a fishing village and tells the tale of how, at school, rich kids had bologna sarnies for lunch and the poor kids ate lobster ! How things have changed. :)

Yes, I've spoken to lots of the Acadians here who have told me it was like this down in the Bay of Fundy too. I met a group from NS, NB and Newfoundlanders the other night who almost came to blows telling me how 'their' bit of Canada had the very best tasting lobster....I took up the challenge, and am determined to try the all!

Extra chunky New England Seafood Chowder (yes from a tin), and I've grilled a few slices of bacon crispy to crumble on the top, and 7 (not 5 or 8!) grain bread with really nice butter. Comfort food for the soul!

Treated my friend to steak, potatoes and slaw at the Serb today, (Friday is steak day), tomorrow he'll be removing the 2 tires I had slashed last night and haul them to the shop for changing. I only have use of 1 arm right now so not much help but at least I have my impact and sockets here for him.

What is the Serb?

Did someone actually slash your tires?!

Regina's Serbian Club, (what you folks would call 'old man's drinking club').
Yes, I lost my 2 passenger side tires Thursday night, there were about a half dozen others or more slashed down the block. I had a few not-too-bad tires in storage so hopefully I'll get away for about $50 to have them mounted, balanced, and new valve stems.

You seem fairly blasé about it, are tire slashings common on that street?

Probably more common than in the suburbs, (I'm in the middle of North Central Regina). Over the years we've lost a few, and a few more car windows. If I get my hands on one of the little vandals you'll read about how blase' I am.

It's a bit creepy, but they do taste good. Probably due to their marketing which primarily targets seniors.

The layout is comfy, you always see groups of retirees hanging out, they get a free refill, they can get bacon and eggs, and the motif is often nostalgic with old photos of the drive-ins on placemats and as wallpaper. Roadside highway stops are often at A&W when I'm travelling. The last 2 times I went there were no plastic trays, just small aluminum pans that wouldn't be out of place in an army field mess. It's possibly a trick of perspective, but when I was 15 the teen burger was bigger and the beef was better. At $3 + tax with coupon the sirloin is decent value and delicious. I'd still rather eat the regular A&W burgers than either McDonald's or Burger King, (I found a piece of chain-mail butcher's glove in a Whopper Jr one time), and I think Dairy Queen burgers are ok but don't have them often.

I was in Fort Mcleod Ab yesterday very briefly and tried a Spicy Guacamole Teenburger. Not bad! Barely worth the $5 introductory price either, but when it gets a $3 or $3.25 sale coupon like the Uncle Burger I'll buy it.

You do get around! Real guacamole is great, not that keen on the commercial stuff (often not much more than green mayo). Have not tried the A&W version (yet).

with my cup of coffee after lunch today I had possibly the best biscuit ever. SWMBO made a batch of chocolate-chip-and-bacon cookies yesterday. Imagine a proper, gooey-in-the-middle, cookie, with semisweet chocolate chips and little nuggets of crispy bacon all mixed in together. I brought two large ones in with me this morning, intending to have the second one later on. No chance - I scarfed them both down in quick succession. Mmmmmmm.
