A colleague made us chilli for lunch today. It was perfectly fine. There was no rice, unfortunately, so it was offered with an interesting side dish of sliced bread and Cheez-Wizz.

Given our remoteness from the shops, that was a brave display of initiative. Too brave for me though, and I just had a bowl of chilli on it's own.

Do you have Burger King, Taco Bell or Pizza Hut like they do on military bases?

No. There is one concession in the camp, can you guess what it is?

Why wouldn't the camp have all the usual suspects? It would be a captive market I would have thought.

All food in the camp is free. Why would you choose to buy junk food?

Mind you, that argument also applies to the TH and there is no shortage of idiots walking past free coffee to buy one from there. Bonkers.

Between HID and Novo's constant bullying about my robust stature, it'll be a tuna and sweetcorn pasta salad from the Hairy Bikers diet book. If those fat bastards can do it, so can I.

That looks oh Pho good. :)

Hot soup is always a good call in weather like this. Brrr. I’m going to have hearty New England of clam chowder, followed by a bowl of steaming mussels in dill butter, garlic & wine and then some pasta with scallops. Because I’m meeting with a group of puritanical toss munchers later, I’ll to piss them off only with the odor of garlic rather than alcohol. :(

What kind of beans are in it?

caretaker Feb 9th 2014 11:39 pm

Re: Lunchtime Choices

Black beans but you can use baked beans if you want. There are no burrito rules. I rinse canned pinto beans or black beans and cook them quick with a little onion and cilantro, sea salt and margerine then mash them up with a fork to make refried beans to go with my huevos ranchero in the morning. It's great having those big tortillas available (10 for $3.39), about 20 seconds per side in a hot ungreased skillet and they're ready for anything.

I'm rather undecided about the route to take for lunch today as I've just had a large piece of chocolate and raspberry cake with whipped cream on top that one of our girls brought in. As I'm fairly full, it'll probably just be a burger and chips.

I'm hoping there will be a nice large slice left to go with the cup of tea I'm planning in an hour.

Why would that be ? I go to the same joint, just over the border, frequently. I've never had a problem in 13 years. :p

Provolone cheese, you know despite all the good things I think about it, it really does smell like feet.
