it has to be ....

chips topped with mushy peas + a battered cod fish with an added steamed steak & kidney pudding (add curry as an option) + a large glass of Irn Bru or Dandelion & Burdock

in the UK, Danny Malin knows his food - from one of his many youtube videos

One piece of fish and a few chips will have to come home with me for later.

Very talented! If I have that it's coming out of a can though.

Three days out of the last 4, I've had subs from N'goc Van. Today on the advice of a friend I had the pork skewer sub instead of my usual combination sub. It was very good, but I missed the taste of the pate' the combination has.

Note in the Serb fish and chip picture no malt vinegar. Bloody heathens unless the person who ordered it asked for white vinegar then if that's the case they shouldn't be eating fish and chips. I will forgive the absence of mushy peas.

Mushy peas would be nice. I don't know if they have malt vinegar there or not; never asked. I use it at home all the time and white vinegar is actually kind of a refreshing change occasionally. The pickled red cabbage side is ok, but I know in the manager's priorities cheap and easy are big selling points. I'll mention mushy peas.

I asked the owner about mushy peas and his reception was less than luke-warm, too bad but I tried. I'm just about to have a bacon, guacamole and fried jalapeno burger.

If I'm haveg fish and chips, then with no mushy peas it's tomato sauce, but with mushy peas, always malt vinegar, certainly not this ersatz stuff usually from the chip shop.

Trimmings from the steelhead trout I got ready for brining and smoking along with a little piece of leftover smoked salmon were enough to make 2 big bowls of chowder. There's my omega-3's! Naturally I rendered down and added some bacon because you don't want to make it too healthy.

I had butter and smoked trout and cream cheese on a bagel, then I had a half dozen little raw oysters with a drop of hot sauce, and I may be doing something else because there are more oysters.

As I'm only allowed one meal a day now, I had freshly caught pink salmon with a mango salsa on a bed of salad.

"Allowed" ? Medical reason or the Mrs?

Salmon sounds nice.. would rather not have the mango salsa with it though :)

Re: Lunchtime Choices

I only had one meal today. For the first time in about 4 years I had the buffet at the Hungarian Club. A bowl of bean soup, then a pork hock, 2 cabbage rolls, 2 pieces of sausage, a cutlet, and mashed potatoes with gravy. Dessert was 4 little slices of a roll that tasted like coconut rumballs. I'll eat a bunch of baby spinach tomorrow to atone for the absence of vegetables. I used to be able to go back for seconds at smorgasbords but not today. I'll have to try at China Liangs sometime soon if they're back to normal. I like the ginger beef.

I just had sausage and eggs, toast and beans and a glass of merlot. In a Montreal cafe one morning a long time ago I saw an old man wearing a beret, eating bacon and eggs and having a glass of wine. I liked the look.
