I can do slices of a nice crusty baguette. Anything else? An piece of apple, tomato or if you're a modern ploughman you might be into some rather spicy capers.
What about some Piccalilli pickle (mustard pickles) - that might give you a change up.. or some silverskin 'sweet' pickled onions, perhaps.. (both available at Walmart and other fine grocery stores  Cider or beer to wash it down is essential :D |

Just counting the pits, and there were 10, which is about right for a bowl that size. I know what I'm doing.

Mustard. Cheese and mustard are a marriage made in heaven as long as there's butter included. sausage rolls?
Some spring onion could bring the Stilton on nicely, those pickled bastards tend to overpower things somewhat. |
Re: Lunchtime Choices
Thoughtful and helpful suggestions, so thank you. Hopefully I'll be able to share my ploughman's journey.

Opinions can vary, tradition as well. I like cheddar, and I like Stilton, but damn, I have to use up the brie.

On a similar vein regarding traditions & opinions, I'd like to know which philistine was responsible for the introduction of brioche buns to the savoury world. It's now commonplace to see pubs advertising burgers served on a brioche bun as though it's something to be proud of. Whatever next... a hot dog served in between 2 slices of Battenburg?

I only knew about stuffed brioche until a few years ago, from reading old New Yorker magazines and seeing ads for upscale restaurants with pictures of their brioche. |

Best burgers ever are from New York, so called tri sate area where they ask you how you want your burger to be cooked. Charcoaled on the outside and rare in the middle is sublime. Or from a burger van in a lay-by in the UK

Pumpernickel and butter and Cambozola and smoked salmon (and I had some dry salami earlier), also wine. Kiss me, you fool.

They list chili but they're down the bottom of the list so there aren't many. I don't find it hot, more sweet than anything. You can always get a small bottle or jar and try it (good in a stir fry or with pot-sticker dumplings, lots of stuff). I buy the 1.75 litre can and fill squeeze bottles to last about a year.

Odds and ends, I'd already eaten some salami. Also a couple of Big Rock single hop IPA.

I hadn't been to the Hungarian Club for 2 weeks, and when my girlfriend in the kitchen saw me she brought out the palacsinta! It's good to be the king.

Re: Lunchtime Choices
I'm calling it a late lunch. My neighbour was ice fishing yesterday and shared some of his walleye and perch with me. He says the ice is 10" - 11" thick so I hope to get out there myself soon.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/british...f767579383.jpg I froze a few pieces for when I make my next chowder. The more, the merrier. |

Re: Lunchtime Choices
I'll call it early lunch; the chicken I thawed out for yesterday but didn't cook, so marinated in soy and Redhot Original Seasoning overnight then 2/3 through the baking glazed with some bulgogi-ish concoction (hoisin, sesame oil, sugar, garlic, soy, ginger) and rice.

Fettuccine carbonara with Cremini mushrooms. I didn't have pancetta so just diced up a bunch of smoked bacon, no regrets.
