I'm not surprised either, because you mentioned a desire to try pho (pronounced fa) a little while ago.

I haven't bee quite brave enough to try it yet. I think I'll wait until it's a cold and wet afternoon. Somehow in a situation like that, it seems like it would be less of a cultural leap.

What do you call the stuff in the bowl?, looks like pho from here.

Well I'm having a kimchi flavoured ramen noodle bowl and home made kimchi - it's Korean.

Sea Scallops.

I normally buy the Bay kind mainly used as an ingredient in the fishy version of a dish that was created and named using the first part of my wife's name and the last part of my own.

We did use Sea Scallops once but altogether, with everything else, there wasn't really a difference so stuck with the cheaper Bay kind.

I bought some Sea Scallops alongside the bargain Ham and Rib Roasts in Superstore's 4 day special.

Had them at lunchtime today, just quickly fried in garlic and butter.

Heavenly. Should have bought more than one tray.

I don't think we those out here. We only have the proper ones.

I think scallops would definitely be on my death-row last-meal tray. 6 or 12 even... oh yes.

Bubble and squeak using thanks giving left overs. With brown sauce.

Haven't had any lunch yet. Got some biggly wiggly from Foggy Bottom in town so we're having to pretend we're working on stuff. :(

Hotdogs and cake. (And it's healthy; kimchi on hotdogs erases a multitude of dietary sins.)

Small piece of salmon and a dark green salad with no salad cream. I'm doing a pre Ashes cleanse.

Re: Lunchtime Choices

I've been working in Germany this year and I am struggling with the lunch mentality. There are a few local restaurants by the office which do the mittagstisch (lunchtime hot main meal) but although it is very lovely there are a few problems as far as i am concerned:
  • It takes too long - 1hr minimum, often closer to 2
  • It makes me sleepy in the afternoon
  • I like my evening meal and a big lunch puts me off that
  • A big lunch puts me off going to the gym in the evening

There is a bakery near the office which does lovely sandwiches/rolls but most of my colleagues think that missing a big lunch is a travesty. I do feel very European in philosophy, but NOT when it comes to the average working day lunch.

More of the same, same kimchi hotdogs, same cake. No complaints, I'm getting paid well for eating it at work. :-) I found the Snoopy hot dog toaster they got last year and have been using that.

They ought to make one of those where Snoopy really is lying on top. Just have to remove 'the lid' to put the bread in.

Nice. I had to work early and left fuelled by muffins and coffee, so the breakfast I wanted, I'm having right now for a late lunch; kippers and toast and beans with Irish whiskey and a lager.

Ha ha, that's because it's something you like, but I it would be healthier with something other than ramen. Full marks though, for easy and tasty and under $1, even with the cold Bohemian because it was one of several the band left in the cooler in the green room.

People say what is the point of threads like this, but if it's shown us anything, it's that you can live well into your middle sixties eating foods with no obvious nutritional value. ;)

I said "better" not healthier ;) Anyway in all your food posts I think 99% of them have made me wish I was eating that too.

Turkish stuffed cabbage leaves for me tonight, bought from a deli I'm afraid, not homemade by me.

This is what I got for lunch again. I think the wording HID used was. "At Christmas, if you're going to act like a naffing out-of-control adolescent that's just left home, you better go on a diet and exercise programme for the next couple of months."

Edited to note: The explanation of why the smoothie seems lumpy, HID has some theory about the health benefits of chewing your smoothie. She'll be adding crystals and magnets in them next. :(

Re: Lunchtime Choices

I took the leftover chicken and rice and greens from last night to work and microwaved it and had it with the increasingly usual kimchi, (co-worker and I both like it so we're keeping a good stash in the office fridge). If I'd known the terrible shite Oink is being forced to endure I would have sourced sausage rolls to torment him with.. that's the German bit coming out. While I'm trying to think of what to have for supper some Christmas cake and butter and a few drinks will tide me over.

Oink, start making kimchi and sell her on you can have whatever you want so long as you eat a little dish of good kimchi every day*. It's trending. No idea how it goes with salmon but I'd risk it. Tell her it's like engine de-greaser for your guts.
*with rice or soup or stew, somehow, nothing wrong with a day or 2 off from it either

I fear it has too much sodium to pass inspection.

 I don't think it's going to be a problem from one little dish per day, it's a condiment more than a main course. Had blood work done exactly one week ago this very minute, and if my sodium was high my Dr's office would have phoned me. I'm about to prepare my lunch to take to work.

Somehow doubt it. She wouldn't get much.

I think she found out about some of the Christmas lunchtime reservations I've already made.
