The chicken stew is not good, that bowl is going back. That's why the kitchen here has earned no stars from Michelin.

Supper was roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and it was terrible too. I ate the cake, one bite of the pudding, a little of the beef, and all the mashed potato and gravy, left the frozen mixed veg. Tomorrow I'm going to try to get my friend to bring me a bahn mi sub after work.

If I'm still here (debatable). The Hun has their buffet Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Serbian Club has the fish and chip special on Friday but I could get a burger or pizza or something.
They just wheeled a lady into the next space who's on NPO so they can fix (I think a broken leg)(edit; sounds like a hip) in the morning. She's getting the same surgeon I had. It's a busy place

Beef vegetable soup (no salt, but edible), broccoli-raisin salad (not very good either, but I ate it (including all 3 raisins)). Chicken salad sandwich (not very good, but edible), dish of pineapple chunks had to go back; not sure where they sourced that but it was a mistake. One of the better lunches I've had here, which is just plain sad. At least I won't have to have food brought in tonight, no matter what's for supper. There are probably people who think it's pretty good, which makes me ask just where and what have they been eating?

Soup, a sandwich and a side salad.. crackers to go with the soup (they seem to like that here).. then dressing to go with the salad...mustard for the sandwich...

Pretty standard hospital fare.. the portions are usually tiny :)

2 pIeces! I must have had an admirer in the kitchen. Today was Italian meatball soup, Salisbury Steak and mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy and the vile mixed vegetables. As soon as I finished my friend arrived and we started packing up. Looking forward to something good for lunch tomorrow.

Great big fat bacon and egg sandwich with salsa, first thing I've cooked since getting home. It was really good.

Yummo, and well done on the coordination you'd have needed to get that done!

It's not lunch because it's after 2am here, but I've just had a ham and pickle sandwich. On steroids at the moment and am bloody starving all the time

What's pickle to you?
To me it's a jar of Branston's.

In Canada it's what I'd call a gherkin, pickled.

That sounds great! I've had the occasional bento box in Regina and eaten at a couple of big chain places in Vancouver (the one in Metrotown with the model train carrying food around wasn't bad) but the best sashimi I've ever had was at my friend's place in Vancouver about 13 years ago. They used to have sushi night every 1 or 2 weeks in better times. The lovely and gracious Daphne is a wonderful cook.

I had chicken tacos, and that almost always cheers me up. The rock-hard avocado my friend shopped for me 2 weeks ago was rotten, so no guacamole, so I had salsa fresca; the next best thing.

Looks good!

You can ripen unripe avocados in the oven (and apparently in the microwave) - I tried the oven method at Christmas and it does work! https://www.keyingredient.com/recipe...in-10-minutes/

Always a good choice. What type of fish? Cod? Pollock? Do you use white vinegar on your chips and tartar sauce on your fish? I use lemon first and homemade tartar sauce.

Brits normally have malt vinegar on chips and fish.

I was recalling scenes from the chippy...paper, chips on top, then fish...’salt and vinegar of that love’? :D I don’t eat fish, but hubby said the chippy would sprinkle vinegar on it all.

I can well imagine that. When asked in the chippy "salt and vinegar with that?" I had to be quite firm with the "just on the chips please". ;)

Wherever it goes I've usually said no thanks, and then put my own on.
In my experience they put salt on first and then wash it to the bottom of the paper with the vinegar. I mean, what's the point? :frown:

Vinegar first so the salt has something to stick to.

Absolutely. My Japanese mate bought me a spray thingy for malt vinegar, so that the chips enjoyed a fine vinegar spray before the gentle salt dusting.

Some dipstick broke the spray thingy a while back, I must look to get a new one.

In England I used to have cod or huss - here it's usually haddock.

Malt Vinegar on chips and perhaps a touch of lemon on the fish, never tartar sauce - can't stand the stuff!

If having chips on their own then a sprinkle of malt vinegar, or perhaps some mayo to dip them in :D
