Sort of like Quebec then
If they want true independence then let them have it and they totally separate from the UK. No keeping this or that full out independence. Need a passport then apply to the Scottish passport office. Need mail delivering then send via courier or the Scottish post office. Need to claim unemployment benefits then use the Scottish system. Do I need to carry on?

Its not a vote for Salmondor the SNP,after independence the people of Scotland can vote them out if they wish. With independence there is that "going it alone" factor ,all countries have experienced it.Some things will workout alright other things wont pan out as planned but just work round it.

True but have they even given the voters an inclination as to what happens down the road in a couple of years if they vote Yes. Have they given figures how much it will cost. Are they basing these figures on still sharing some Westminster establishments such as the passport office, DVLA, Post Office and a whole load of others?

The No campaign are providing those figures and scenarios. It was reported that there is genuine interest by many Scots in the pros and cons. If independence gained many shared institutions (the NHS for example) will be effected, but that's not to say that over a decade separate systems cannot be put in place. Look at Canadian provinces for example.

So what figures are the Yes side quoting? Sure those systems can be put into place as they have done in Canada which sometimes baffles me especially motor vehicle licensing. Why can't we have a Canadian driving licence? We have a Canadian passport don't we with all or most Provinces having a passport office.
Hell Canada can't even agree on Inter Provincial Trade on wine

Each side has its own figures and its own assumptions, as you can imagine. A Canadian DL would make much more sense.

Totally agree....The United Kingdom has been ONE country now for a long time, a lot longer than many countries on the world map including the United States. So what exactly is this inedependance from???

I dont think OPs Mexican girlfriend really knows or understands the full story concept or full history of the situation.

How far do you take this independence thing? Is the next move to split England into the ancient kingdoms of East Anglia, Mercia, Northumbria, Kent, Essex, Sussex, and Wessex??

Hell yeah Im sure Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cumbria and a few others would like to be separated from that bunch of clowns in Westminster and those arrogant pansy shandy drinkers from the Home Counties and London.

I doubt it. Those regions do not have an inferiority complex, nor are their students taught about their evil oppressor during school.

Does anyone in England really care if they decide to vote for independence? Sure, it will make headlines for a week or two, and then the English will go back to their lives and if the Scots make a good go of it: good for them. If they don't: on their heads be it.

I thought that James McAvoy's comments on, I believe, the Andrew Marr show recently were spot on: Vote how you really want to, not because a politician is promising that your life will be better because we all know that they are lying bastards

As good an argument for the Yes campaign as they're going to get. Alex will send you a cheque in the post. Britain ex-Scotland will lose 10% of its population, a section if its science base, three world class universities and some oil revenues. All part of the long decline on the world's stage.

But, those that are going to vote yes have already made up their minds. I do not believe for one moment that the economic argument will sway anyone one way or the other. They are either flag waving "patriots" or wanting to maintain the status quo and if they really believe that most outside of Scotland will give it a second thought one month after the votes have been counted, they are delusional.

Generally agree, but there are still a few fence sitters. There will be plenty of second thoughts both north and south of Berwick if Scotland separates. Probably a good five decades worth!
