Re: if the scots go, do you care?

The main ignorance for years was the English thinking that they subsidize Scotland, when it is starting to look more the other way around.
The English government even went as far as to change the borders on the sea to encompass more of the oil rigs which was kept quiet.

Can Scotland go it alone?
I have no idea,if they get the oil fields back and can kick start some of the industry which has decayed over the past few decades it could work out very well for Scotland.
Swapping Westminster for Brussels doesn't make much sense to me though, they should do a Norway and keep out of the EU.
No one seems to be willing to release any figures on incomes and outgoings on either side of the campaign which is pretty frustrating.

Hopefully I get my residency and the entire thing will not be an issue to myself or my family anyway.

So i dont think we have to worry about England soccer team being Salmond's secret weapon, although the guy is so clueless about anything else, maybe he was thinking along those lines.

You say Salmond is clueless but 20yrs ago the SNP were nowhere in Scotland, now they have already 2 terms of government and could win the referendum, doing not bad methinks. As for the England fitba team, its refreshing for us other british persons not hear and read all the bs hype on how England are gonna win it and football is coming home:lol:Just enjoy the tournament, enjoy the football and its party not a fight!;)

Salmond is just saying stuff that people want to hear, he has no idea of how or if this will work if its a yes vote. The fact that he assumed that the British pound could contuined to be used after a yes vote proves that, there is no plan that has been thought through.

As for the England football team, they are a joke, they have been a joke for a long time and the hype really is ridiculous, the players are a bunch of overpaid primodonna's.

Ive always been in favour of a British football squad like they do with the olympic team, and other sports such as tennis and motorsport, i always thought football divided the nation instead of bringing it together.

I agree totally with you in that people such just enjoy the football, the tournament, party not fight, sadly many of the British dont view football in that way.

On the currency the SNP have a plan B and a plan C ,sharing sterling is their best option and thats why Salmond isnt budging from that plan A.They have a think tank of economists and professors advising them so they do at least have some kind of plan.
I love watching Scotland play ,good or bad :lol:so I wouldnt want a British team of course! As for England at the least they have stamped out the idiots who were causing all the trouble and the real footaball fans and families are going to there games now.

The hype over the English football team is media generated though. How many English people are actually expecting us to get out of the group this time around? Not many. The media like to sensationalize everything. If it isn't the WAGs shopping then it is the fact that the England team is basically Rooney and 10 other guys making up the numbers.

As for the fans.. its boring hearing about English hooliganism now. It's been a while since it's been a real issue. Meanwhile the Spanish and Italians are continually racially abusing players! But it's still the English fans that'll get the special treatment by the police.

Incorrect. The SNP, in general, are doing a pretty good job in Scotland. They are protecting many of the values of the Scottish people, which are becoming more and more divergent than those of the English. Things like free higher education, free prescriptions and so on.

This political argument is a big one for me. You might say "how would you be able to afford it?" Well if I lived in Scotland, I'd be more than willing to pay more tax if it meant a fairer, more equitable society. These things are important to me. The was the UK seems to be currently heading doesn't interest me. UKIP winning the recent Euro elections in England, for instance. Increasing privatisation of public services. The Conservatives being in power at Westminster when they only won one seat in Scotland. Ridiculous spending on nuclear bombs, the armed forces etc. Disgraceful wars in foreign countries for spurious reasons e.g. Iraq. Increasing gap between rich and poor.

The economic argument is, of course, important. I personally think we'd do well. It'd be hard for a few years. I think it takes a cowardly and negative person not to want to step up to the challenge and believe that we can do it. Why shouldn't we be able to? There's loads of prosperous countries with our population in Europe. The number of amazing people to have come out of Scotland across all fields is incredible.

As for your statement about the football team - nobody wants a British national team. Never going to happen I'm afraid.

You could take that logic further: why would you not want independence for your own county? Or perhaps city?

How would a city become independent?

Think of the UK as being fish and chips and for arguments sake
England is the fish, Scotland the chips, Wales the salt and Northern Ireland as the vinegar.
We have been eating this for hundreds of years and the chips are now deciding if they want to not be served with the other 3.
Sure we could substitute the chips for rice or other but it wouldn't be the same.

They will have their vote in September and they will decide where the chips fall;)

I also left out the mushy peas but as they are green sod it they can be Ireland.
Nothing wrong with HP sauce on chips but if eaten with fish then its a no from me. We won't even discuss deep fried Mars bars ;)

Let the voters decide on facts not myths but unfortunately Salmond is not giving out all the facts for the voters to make a well informed decision on.
Notice how some of the prominent members of society in other countries are pleading for a NO vote.
Personally I don't care one way or the other as it doesn't directly affect me unless Canada imposes visa requirements on the Scots

I don't think it's about the facts anymore. The economic case can be made one way or the other. People are going to decide on whether they want to be UK citizens or Scottish citizens no more no less. I think most people will vote with their hearts not their heads. For better or worse.
