I don't doubt that at all. But there are also people who think they believe in god, when in fact they believe in belief.

Some people also like the family and community ties and traditions, but don't believe at all.
Personally I find it hard to believe that anybody goes to church just for the craic. |

Personally I'm happy to believe that when somebody is asked, "are you a Muslim/Christian/Jew/etc" and their response is "yes", that they might actually consider themselves to be a member of that religion.
If your happy to believe otherwise, then go for it. We may as well say that people with autism should set the laws as people with religion. |

The wiki entry specifically contradicts the idea that the people listed have self-identified as belonging to the religion. The measure is as crude as "live in Utah, count as Mormon", "live in Ireland, count as Catholic". That said, even if we accept that 10% of the population of the world are sincere holders of some sort of faith that's still not a reason to allow their faith to influence legislation. Some faiths have beliefs cancelling out those of others, some don't have a view on the matter at issue, none present rational arguments for their position.
We may as well say that people with autism should set the laws as people with religion. I also reckon that even today religous beliefs world wide, more than influence individual countries laws and Society.Including the west. I dont believe for 1 minute that majority on this planet are athiests ,agnostics, or nihilist/nielist. The non believers are still in the minority. Myself..I suppose in the minority, but have deep spiritual beliefs that cross the Divide and plains of life. |

Re: gays not welcomed
who gives a shit what anyone else believes? If it comforts them to believe then what business is it of anyone elses?? threads like this never cease to amaze me, if people are so comfortable with their view then why do they feel the need to try and convince everyone else to join their ranks?? is it for comfort or something? sheesh:thumbdown:

I may have left out some detail but that's the essence. It is when a 'belief' effects someone else that one should, as you say, give a 'shit'. |

It's because the original thread was about owners of a B & B who refused a gay couple room because it was against their religious beliefs and were taken to court and lost.

It's only when people want to affect the lives of others on the excuse of their religion that there's a problem. Be as religious as you like, in your own bedroom. |

interesting situation
Is this a case of political correctness gone mad? or do homosexuals automatically have the gawd-given right to be catered to even if the hotel owner thinks different? __________________ did we really get an answer to my first post? did these innkeepers have no rights? I think they did the right thing going to court even though their case was doomed from the start they took a principled stand because their personal beliefs counted for something also |
