A lot of people unfortunately are brainwashed by the media, and live their lives taking what they've read and heard to be the gospel, and at times tarnish a whole group of people with the same brush as what one individual did did or might not have done.

whatever the eventual outcome, the issue comes down to those upholding their religious beliefs vs the right of homosexuals to be treated equally

individual rights vs collective rights

It is not only the religious that are anti-gay, some are are simply uncomfortable with the concept.
