One of the saddest inequalities is showing affection in public. I'm not talking about tongues down throats eating face stuff cos that ticks me off in heteros too but it is sad that a married couple will hold back on holds, on airport kisses, hand holding. Simple things.

I know what you mean , last year I went away on holiday with some friends (for one of their birthdays ) my OH couldn't come with us due to work commitments, it was the first time in 5 years we had been apart, when he picked me up at the airport I gave him a peck on the lips in the arrivals lounge then instantly remembered where I was and had to check that I hadn't offended anyone or "exposed" any children to a sign of gay affection

Oh, shudders. The whole airport could have been corrupted. You did the right thing.

The Croats take a stand

Note that the country is heavily roman catholic

They are not against homosexuals per se and seemed to be resigned to 'same sex' unions but they feel marriage is reserved exclusively for man and wife

"Marriage is the only union enabling procreation. This is the key difference between a marriage... and other unions," said Croatia's Cardinal Josip Bozanic in a letter read out in churches.

It still surprises me how you staunch "heteros" as you put it run to the gay pride argument. Perhaps if gay folk weren't STILL persecuted for their lifestyle they wouldn't feel the need to celebrate their sexuality in such a flamboyant manner but to be fair when faced with adversity from individuals with narrow minded views they need to stand up and be counted.

And please don't ever presume to know how i present my "gayness" because as strange as it may seem I also believe that gay prose marches have become a farce and lost their original meaning and as such I have never participated in one

I wasn't singling out you, I was passing a general comment based on your question.

I'm not staunch about anything. Some gays choose to represent themselves publicly and in a very provocative way. Some members of the less enlightened hetro public, because of the coverage it successfully generates, choose to pass judgement, that's all.

paulry, does someone come at night and try to push things into your bum?

If not, why does it matter to you if other people are homosexual? You can just choose not to participate, there's no call for you to go out and object to them getting married, holding hands in public, doing anything at all that causes no direct harm to you. MYOB.

Marriage being reserved for being between a man and a woman is my freely expressed opinion. If you don't like it then you know what you can do ;)

It's also supposed to be for the procreation of children so should childless marriages be banned?

The issue is not homosexuality per se since it is a fact of life, has been for hundreds of years, nothing new there

Whether people are born homosexuals (probably) or it is a lifestyle (unlikely), does not change the fact that to describe that type of relationship as 'gay marriage' is both inaccurate and unrealistic since it should be properly labeled as a same-sex civil union.

Period.

No since marriage might result in offspring but it is not a requirement

Why? What is the difference between the two relationships that means only one can be called marriage?

I'm not trying to be provocative. I am genuinely interested in why you think this.

that is a fair question

I have been raised in the belief that marriage is between a man and a woman and at my ripe old age I am not inclined to modernise my views

It is not a matter of being against homosexuals as I have said several times

I have difficulty in understanding why, to homosexuals, the term 'same-sex civil union' would not suffice, since it does not affect their rights in any way

Maybe someone here can explain to me why the term marriage in a same sex situation is so important and worth fighting for?

Only if there is no intercourse. Remember contraception is frowned upon by the bible.
