I thought the legalization of marijuana would be funnier than it has turned out to be.

Much bitching about it in the office. "No one delivers any more" and, "it's hard to find anyone to sell significant quantities so you need many suppliers", are the common complaints though these are balanced by the one person who lives in a high rise condo "elevator much stinkier now".

Meanwhile in BC, we don't have a single official government store in Metro Vancouver. Feels like legalization has been an absolute trainwreck, at least so far. I don't smoke weed but I was interested in the potential for the government to raise more revenue through taxation, right now the black market still has hardly any competition.

I think he meant BC Government run stores, not privately owned.

I was wondering why my city still doesn't have any cannabis outlets, here in California. To my great disappointment, I read this article that talks about the very dysfunctional way the new law (legalizing marijuana) is being implemented. In essence, while the state approved legalizing recreational use in 2016, they also allowed each city and county to decide on how they wanted to implement the situation. And to date, only a handful of cities and counties have stepped up and allowed retail outlets. The big majority of cities and counties have done nothing to legalize the product and many have implemented local bans. There seem to be two major reasons; some cities / counties are conservative and don't want to allow the sale to occur in their locations, but the bigger reason seems to be a fear of liability with the feds. As a result, tax revenues are nowhere near what they expected, and access to even medical marijuana is still hard for many people.

"Fewer than one in five California cities welcome medical marijuana dispensaries, while fewer than one in seven allow recreational cannabis stores ... ".
Looks like I may need to wait a bit longer before I can wander into a retail outlet and select a strain of weed from a wide variety of choices ....
