Well surprise, surprise who didn't see this coming
The union representing Calgary police has filed a grievance over a blanket ban on officers using cannabis.
Current rules prohibit officers from consuming marijuana, even when they're not on duty.
Calgary Police Association president Les Kaminski says the ban goes too far, now that recreational pot is legal.
He says officers know they must show up to work fit for duty.
I expect similar action being taken by Toronto Police Services and the RCMP as they have a 28 day limit. I dont think either force has a schedule where you get 28 days off

First of all, Congrats Canada for passing this law! I have a related question. In this article: https://www.wsj.com/articles/supply-...ion-1539778281 it says:
Doesn't the Netherlands have legalized marijuana?
Canada became the largest country to legalize the recreational use of marijuana on Wednesday, a potentially watershed moment for a nascent cannabis industry that is banking on showing the drug can be safely regulated.
The first Group of Seven country to embrace legalization, Canada is joining eight U.S. states, Washington, D.C., and the small South American country of Uruguay. Its implementation here will likely serve as a test case for other Western governments considering an alternate approach to cannabis.

Legal, schmegal!

The level of 'tolerance' is pretty darned high, as my G/F was there last year and walked into shops where various forms of marijuana were being as freely as hot dogs and ice cream. So is there any interesting background as to why the Netherlands has chosen to take this approach? Seems odd to me.

Wow! I also found this - https://www.holland.com/global/touri...rug-policy.htm - looks like the Netherlands' official website, which states: "The Netherlands is famous for its tolerant drugs policy. But a lot of people don’t realize that drugs are in fact illegal in the Netherlands".

They also turned a blind eye to most dispensaries selling weed to people with no medical marijuana card. Not quite as relaxed as Amsterdam, but almost.

I see that Mexico is soon to legalise it, too. With all the murders the country has, it makes no sense for the Police to waste their time on trivial misdemeanours.

I admit that I found the Cannabis Advent Calendar while searching for a pornographic one. At $300 I'm not getting it, but I rationalise that any calendar with chocolate in it is a cannabis calendar.

I'd never even heard of advent calendars until seeing one on Father Ted.

I found this stuff this morning; it's the insane amount of packaging required to legally sell 1 gram of dried cannabis. What the hell? They make plastic grocery bags illegal then require this for literally a pinch of grass. I have an idea why it costs too much..... And I suspect nonsense like these requirements won't help sell legal weed.

Talking of toking up, we had our secret santa at work yesterday and I managed to score one pre-rolled joint. Guess who is getting baked on Christmas eve.

You guys are so F**ing lucky! I'm sitting in AZ at the moment, where they'd probably toss me in jail for that! I'm heading to CA for xmas, and will see what I can find there. Last I looked (Oct), my county hadn't worked out the details for the retail establishments. so I couldn't just walk into a store and buy anything. I COULD pop over to SF or Oakland, but ... I'm not that motivated!
