Re: Getting SKY Tv in Italy
Quick questions:
Based in Rome and moving home. My landlady would like to buy my dish etc. to set up TV for new tenant. However I don't want to sell unless I can easily buy a new dish + LNB. It's been sitting on the roof terrace for 8 years and the only thing I recall is that the dish is 1m - didn't pay much attention when it was being set-up.
Any hints of where in Rome to buy a 1 m or 1.2 m dish? Also any ideas on the where to purchase the LNB? I've seen suggestions that I should get the Invacom 0.3/0.4db Twin or Quad but not sure where I can buy those.
All suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

I got my Invacom Quad LNB from www.satcure.com delivered to Italy. You can also pick them up easily on Ebay but I went with Satcure because of the wealth of info they had available.
Dish, obviously, you'll have to get locally. Did you try the Pagine bianche or www.antennista.it?

Re: Getting SKY Tv in Italy
For anyone who has set up a receiver with a small (80cm) dish and pointed it at Astra 2D to get free to air programs, it is true that the number of decent English language programs is limited - no BBC and ITV for example. BUT when you search through the 600 channels of dross and come across a series of 6 blue screens called stream 1, stream 2 etc do not ignore them!!!
These channels show BBC sport and in the past couple of years I've been able to watch the 6 nations rugby, winter olympics, world cup football and Euro Athletic Championships amongst others. This afternoon I'll be watching the F1 race from Spa.

There is also a shortcut to get to these channels if you can access BBC News24 or BBC Parliament -
1. Go to the channel
2. Press text
3. Type in page 3001
4. Press select.
5. You'll get the live sport multiscreen - great for F1, tennis, International matches both rugby and football, snooker, etc.

Re: Getting SKY Tv in Italy
Hi all,
I am interested in buying a Sky Italia card from a dealer who is located in the south of Italy. Can anyone provide me with a telephone number beginning 0039 0... so that I can phone them from the UK?
It would be preferable if the Italian dealer can speak english...
I do not want the main Sky Italia number as I want to install my own customised Satellite Dish and I want a Sky Italia Card on its own. Thanks Chris

Re: Getting SKY Tv in Italy
For BBC and ITV your options are very limited -
Either get a Slingbox setup in the UK and watch via the internet
Get a big dish, perhaps 3m or bigger is required, I'm not too sure exactly the size but 1.5m is too small. Point it at 28.2E, Astra 2D, where most of the Beeb and ITV are broadcasting from.
Get a Sky UK box with a white viewing card, again point your dish, 1.2-1.5m, at 28.2E. There are a couple of regional BBC1 and ITV1 channels broadcasting from Astra 2A/B, for which you don't need the massive dish required for Astra 2D. These channels however are encrypted therefore the need for the viewing card.
Hope this helps!

You have said that some regional BBC1 channels are broadcasting on Astra 2A/B. Can you confirm which BBC regions are being broadcast on Astra 2A/B. Do you know frequency code.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Getting SKY Tv in Italy
Sorry but I can't seem to find any info on the BBC channels still being on Astra 2A/B as it appears they have been taken off now and all been moved to new frequencies on Astra 2D - these are automatically retuned if you have a Sky UK box or a Freesat box, or manually tuned if you are using another decoder.
Try these for ITV tho -
ITV 1
12402V - (27.5 2/3 2B North beam)
Anglia West
Central SW
Meridian North
Meridian SE
Tyne Tees South
Yorks East
11973V - (27.5 2/3 2B South beam)
Central East
Central South
There is of course BBC News and Parliament channels from which you can get access to the interactive services via the red button which are good for sports.

Re: Getting SKY Tv in Italy
Hello, I have just joined up as I am going to be moving to Rapallo just down the coast from Genova.
I am looking to get full UK Sky HD+ when I arrive. I am hoping Duffer (or anybody else kind enough to help) will be able to confirm exactly what I need to do. I have highlighted the questions in bold if you want to cut to the chase!
I have a Sky HD box from the UK and currently have a full subscription to Sky. Given I am going to be renting out my UK property I am going to have to probably give up that subscription. Can anybody tell me if I set up multiroom at my mother's address (and thus get a second card to use with my HD box), register it with the box and then take it to Italy with me whether I will be able to watch using that in Italy and not interfere with my mother's Sky?
I do not feel fully comfortable with that I must admit (because whilst I realise it is not legal to watch Sky UK outside of the UK I would feel morally happier paying my own full subscription) so I do have another option in getting a Sky subscription from my brother's place (as he doesn't have Sky). Does anybody know if it is possible to register a card at his house without having anybody going there to install anything? I could then register that card with my box.
With that sorted, when I get to Italy I can get a local installer (using one of the suppliers from http://www.antennista.it/ perhaps) to fit a dish of 125cm (Will that be big enough to get everything? Can I get away with something smaller or not?) pointing to 28.2E.
I will then need to ask him/her to put on a quad LNB that I can purchase from http://www.satcure.com/ or similar (Perhaps the LNB42? What's the difference between that and the LNB62? What is multiswitching?).
Then ask them to run 2 cables from the dish to the HD box and switch on.
Should this then receive all usual Sky channels that I receive in the UK? Or will I need to have a bigger dish to receive astra 2D and thus BBC, ITV etc?
I appreciate I have been banging on for a while here but getting UK TV is going to be vital in maintaining my sanity for an hour here or there whilst also being able to enjoy the Italian culture and people.
Thanks in advance for your help/confirmation.

Re: Getting SKY Tv in Italy
Hello and welcome,
It's not illegal to watch Sky UK outside the UK. You just need to be a UK resident to be able to enter into an agreement with Sky. It's not a criminal offence either to take your equipment and continue to watch Sky UK outside the UK.
If the HD equipment is yours then you could just transfer your address to your mums. As she already has Sky, just give them the address of 'bottom flat, mums address', etc. or tell them you want to hook up to a motorised dish as you like Swedish TV for the XXX porn so there will be 2 setups (and therefore 2 bills).
You cannot have multiroom unless the HD boxes are connected to a phone line as they need to call back to Sky. Otherwise you will get charged full price for the 2nd sub but might also get Sky on your back asking why the box isn't connected.
Failing that set it up at your brothers, tell Sky you have your own equipment and no phone line. If you are subscribing to any premium channels then the card will have to be paired to the Sky box which would require a phone call to them once you have received the card (if calling from abroad always use Skype or a UK based Voip number). Without premium channels the card might be activated without having to be paired. I basically signed up to Sky via Skype a few days before going back to the UK. Went home, picked up the card and returned to Italy and called them up to have it paired to the box. Everything was up and running in minutes.
You will be able to get most Sky UK subcription (any package) channels with a 90-100cm dish but it might be touch and go for the BBC and ITV channels (free) which are broadcasting from a narrower beam from Astra 2D. I had 90cm originally and had reception of the BBC only during the daytime but once I upgraded to 125cm I get 24/7 reception of everything. Obviously if you get a good antennista, you may be able to try with the smaller dish for a few days with the possibility to upgrade.
You need 2 cables to use Sky+ recording features, having a quad LNB allows you to have another Sky+ box or 2 other standard boxes.
Let me know if you need any help!
